One of the small chat sessions I had at eBay on location in Dallas was with Ivka Adam, Manager, Verticals for Collectibles. I got an email from her today requesting input on changes to Collectibles categories.

Her email is [email protected]
Telephone: 408-376-6847
Cell phone is available from her biz card if you want that.

Just in case someone wants to contact her, here is her email:

Greetings!

I am evaluating which collectibles categories* need updating and would appreciate your help. Please send me your suggestions and a short explanation of why they’re necessary (feel free to include links to illustrate what you mean or provide examples).

We will implement changes in waves to limit disruption, so I’d ask that you be patient. We’ll start by adding categories and then tackle category mergers and removals. I’m hoping to accommodate additions this fall. Depending on volume, we may have to wait until after the holidays to get to all of them…so get your suggestions in early!

Many thanks! I look forward to hearing from you.

Ivka

*Collectibles categories include:

1. Antiques

2. Art,

3. Coins

4. Collectibles

5. Dolls & Bears

6. Entertainment Memorabilia

7. Stamps

8. Sports Memorabilia

9. Pottery & Glass

10. Toys & Hobbies

I'm replying in a way, just to get this thread into my e-mail so I can think about those categories later. (Just back from a trip today.) I know there are some collectibles categories that I've had a bit of trouble with, so I'm going to think them through. Adele

Where do I start? First, with 1,600,000 current listings, postcards should be a category, not a sub-category. Next, eBay should do their best to align or map their postcard categories internationally. 1,600,000 current listings should rate an actual eBay postcard expert to determine subcategories, fees, etc. Why does Utica, NY have a category assigned to it and Chicago does not? The key to selling postcards on eBay is to have a large inventory and expect a longer sell-through time. Category-specific listing fees should recognize this. The recent fee changes with seller exodus and buyers faced with new listings intermixed with old, forces collectors to look elsewhere, hurting the sellers who are hanging on and eBay stockholders, as well.

Off topic, Pixiamom: While on your coast, last week, we ate at Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay. VERY good food! We'd eaten there before, a few years ago, but I'd forgotten how good it was. They've expanded it since we were there last.

I guess this doesn't really apply to what this person will be doing but we need to address the "condition" issue on collectibles/vintage/antique items...there has to be a uniform way to complete the listing form.

Does "new" mean unused or new old stock or reproduction? I wonder if this person would tell us who to contact?

Pixi: Five of the seven of us ordered the shrimp in Thai sauce with noodles. EXCELLENT. The salad was good, too, as was the bread pudding. We needed a designated driver to abstain from the pudding sauce--so alcoholic and wonderful.

Roadsmith:
Tidal Raves is my new favourite place on the Coast too, thanks to Pixiamom and her Mom!

Back to the case at hand:

Pottery and Glass have to be separate categories too in fact there should be 3 distinct categores, Glass, Pottery, China.

I hope all of you will contact this young woman with your suggestions. Also, she seems very responsive to us, gave us her card with her cell phone too. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to establish a relationship with someone at eBay.

As for this restaurant! Yummm!
