In other words, if you sell by auction, how many times do you relist and if by fixed price, how long do you let it stay up before you give up and pull it off Ebay? I've been thinking about using GTC fixed price on some of my items that didn't sell the first and/or second time around via auction, but I'm wondering how everyone else handles that.

You may want to read this post Fixed Price Listings? Time duration?
I personally only list an auction once but that's just me.

Actually, that thread sort of prompted the question. I mean once you've put an item on GTC - how many times do you renew it - will you really let an item stay forever? Or do you have a set number of months after which you give up?

I didn't see anyone actually address that.

I think it just depends on the item. The thing is that you can't sell it if it isn't listed, so you need the exposure. It is really just up to the individual. Some things I am willing to let sit for a year if need be. Just b/c someone doesn't buy it for a year doesn't mean that a new user logs on and finds exactly what they are looking for!

i suppose price also plays a role. I have no problem paying $1 for 20 months of a set of $3000 chairs to sell, where I would have a problem with that $10 item. I use those as examples.

Trends also can change, so what is popular today may not be tomorrow and vice versa.

I just don't think there is a simple answer.

well said.
if you tell us what it is,may be we can help you better.
With a store, sometimes people will bookmark the item and come back later, may be because they are not ready to buy,may be they dont have the money, all kinds of reason.

I ususally list at auction twice than move an unsold item to the store. I do not list anything in the store under $50; our average item price is $100 and up. I am willing to let higher priced items sit till the right person comes along. If I feel they are not getting an action after that time, I move them to the Vendio Store where the eBay FVF is not a factor.
