I had a offer on a bracelet for $350 from a lady in Canada which I took.
She paid but paypal immediately put a hold on the funds. I called paypal and they said it was for my protection so I wrote the lady and told her that she needed to call paypal. She said that she did (but she never replied to the dispute in writing) and they told her it was because she had no feedback and the amount was high?
Then she wanted to pay with her son's paypal account. I told her I could only ship to the address on his account. No problem.
Next I get an e-check from her son - it will clear by 7/7/10.
So right now I have the original pending payment and the pending e-check. She hasn't said anything about the 1st payment and neither have I.
If all goes well - I know I'll have to refund one of them but I'm wondering if I shouldn't wait and see what paypal does with the 1st payment. If they clear it - I would feel better about the whole transaction.
Anyone had a situation like this before?
What would be the best way to ship this?
TIA

I'd cancel the eCheck, and wait for her 1st payment to clear. Paypal is correct, the hold on the funds is for your own protection.

Timid me--I'd hold both payments until things were completed.

I've got a feeling that this transaction isn't going to end well. The e-check is to an unconfirmed address so I'm not sure I can ship on that either. I'm thinking of refunding both and just re listing it. Guess I'll wait till something happens one way or another.

I was right - it's not ending well.
Her original payment never cleared and when the echeck cleared - there was no seller's protection.
I called paypal and they said she never called them (so she lied about that) and they advised me not to ship on either payment. They reversed her 1st payment and I refunded the echeck.
I emailed her and tried to explain to her why I couldn't ship the bracelet.
She immediately started emailing me - calling me a liar - saying I sold it to someone else - I wasted her time blah blah blah. 11 or 12 emails insisting that I mail it and that the address was confirmed. I even sent her a copy showing it was unconfirmed. All of her email were directly to me - all of mine were via ebay's system.
Now I have to decide if the $24 FVF is worth the hassle I may encounter with a negative???
Any advice? TIA

a neg is not the end of the world, and you always have the chance to reply stating, "international payment did not clear paypal, couldn't ship item".

I can't imagine many buyers holding that against you... but it is frustrating to see a neg on your account.

I would send her one final message via eBay. Explain to her that your hands are tied by Paypal/Ebay policies (explain your frustrations with their policies, making you and her the victim of these policies).
Include a link to the Paypal information regarding shipping and why you can't send items to unconfirmed addresses. State your case that you are simply following Paypal policies and wish you could do more... but you can't. I would also immediately refund that e-check payment. That way she can't claim you are holding her money.

You don't have to give up the FVF to let her off the hook. You can choose from a few options for reasons to cancel the transaction and still get your refund. If that doesn't happen, call eBay. The problem is that even if you let her off the hook without a warning, she still can easily neg you.

If you decide to file a dispute over non-payment, you are treading water on it. Since she is only emailing you directly, she may not respond via eBay... but she might.

I tried to explain everything to her but she keep insisting that her son's address is confirmed. I did everything you suggested Shagmidmod but she isn't hearing me. I didn't send her a link but I don't think that would help as she insist the address is confirmed.
I ended up telling her to call paypal and they will tell her that it's an unconfirmed address.

I've refunded the check before I even wrote her. I've suggested that she either have her son confirm his address and resend the payment or she get her "issue" taken care of with paypal and resend that payment. I replied to every single email that she sent and to be honest I don't really feel like opening that dialogue up again.

I guess I can wait a few days and see what happens.
