I was on my way to Costco to buy ink for my old printer, stopped at a garage sale and found an unopened combo package of black & color ink for 25 cents. I love garage sales!!!

So do I! You have to kiss a lot of frogs, right? But now and then you get lucky. My best was a $20 purchase I turned into $5,600+.

Great deals!

Do tell...what was it that you sold for so much?

Oh...I think I can guess...was it the Movie Star Christmas cards?

The last two summers I have found some golden items... nothing this summer like those quite yet, but I still have some time.

I bought a set of 8 dining chairs for $200. Sold them for $3500.

I bought a lamp for $2, sold it at auction last fall for $2500.

Ironic, neither sold on eBay.

This week I sold a set of 6 chairs on eBay for $1000. I couldn't get $625 for them in my local market so that is good news... and my Coleman Lantern with the Abercrombie case from the 1950's is ending in a few hours. Right now it is at $120 with 63 watchers.

Yes, otteropp, you've guess right! A couple hundred Christmas cards (some signed, some imprinted) plus a few personal notes, all from movie stars from mid-century on. Took me a couple of years to sell them all (all but 6 real losers) and I kept track of my profits.

63 watcher - WOW I haven't seen watchers like that in years. Do you think it's the case that makes it worth so much. DH has all kinds of old Coleman lanterns around here. lol

Roadsmith - that should keep you garage sailing forever.

My best is still the sterling flatware I got for $80 and sold for $4000. That keeps me on the hunt for sure.

My best find was an album of carte d'vistes of Civil War generals. That was a long time ago and I sold most of them BEB (before eBAy), except for a CDV of George Custer in uniform that I got a LOT of money for. That was fun.

It ended up at $147 for the lantern. Not bad for a ten dollar investment... though more would always be better.

The best part... I have another one in the Ambercrombie case too.

I will list that one in October in hopes of getting better bids.

I thought I would see it go for over $200 with that many watchers. I don't ever recall having so many watchers for anything in the past. Odd.

I am usually pretty happy with 5 watchers nowadays.

Best I ever did was a tin found in an old barn. I bought the tin and its contents which was mostly junk for $10.00 The one exception was an old sweater collar that I was sure was costume jewelry until I took to a jeweler and was informed that the 200 pearls were saltwater and all hand strung. I sold for $3700.00. I wish I could do that again!!!

Does anyone else save photos of their wonderful finds?
I do - I keep them in a file on vendio. It's fun to go back and look at them. Sometimes it helps me keep going.

I have a photo of every item I have sold since 2002. I keep them on my own computer. I usually use many photos in a listing so I delete all but one and keep it.
I agree with you, it is fun to go back and play the 'Remember when' game.

I have a printout of my first sale on eBay from over 10 years ago. It was a Hot Wheel car purchased at a thrift store. I paid about $1. It was from the 70's and still in the original package. Sold it for $77.55. After that, I was hooked. Haven't looked back since.

I bought a box of books for $3 at a garage sale today. The first book I pulled out was one of those Hallmark volumes they sell at Christmas. Tucked inside was a Bed Bath and Beyond gift card, unused.

There's a tip for your future garage sailing: Check out any Christmas-themed books, particularly the little ones. I fully believe I will find cash hidden in a book one of these days.
