I have non-eBay prospective customer who wants me to ship to the U.K. Since we still have PayPal as a payment processor at the moment, I thought I'd ask here.
I'm thinking she would have to put in a pretty big order if I'm to use a trackable method of shipping. Already had an experience with a Canadian who claimed non-receipt when I shipped first class.

yes. you are absolutely correct. the cheapest international method is using standard Int'l Priority Mail. Not Flat Rate, b/c flat rate won't get you any tracking either. standard IPM starts around $20... ouch!

You do get tracking on Medium and Large Flat Rate International, just not on small flat rate.
I do very little first class international due to lack of tracking. I only make rare exceptions if the item is not valuable and / or I have dealt with the person before. I have never had a problem thus far (knocking on wood), but do not make a practice of it.

I'm so glad I asked you guys. The shipping options for International make my head hurt. It looks like about $26.00 to ship 8 ounces to Great Britain. 8 ounces would be about 6 pairs of earrings properly packaged.

registered mail is not trackable online,so if you accept Paypal,it would not give you any protection.

another problem with UK is UK customs duty,I dont remember the exact cutoff amount 45? 50?
Unless they declare themselves as charity organisation, they have to pay customs duty and if it gets to be too much, they will whine and whine and expect you to pay half.
So it does not hurt to ask them if they are familiar with their own country customs duty rates.
BTW,when you ship UPS international, you can prepay customs duty to expedite customs clearance,Fed Exp may have the same feature.
they get the package faster and there is no surprise,it is trackable online and of course it is more expensive.

One other thing, USPS International priority does have automatic insurance. Amount depends on the weight of the package.
