I'll be shipping a ring internationally that sold for $190. The buyer is asking me to mark as a gift and value it at $30.
I hate it when they do this and have it clearly posted in all my listing that I don't do this as follows: (Please do ask me to mark any item as a gift as this is illegal and your request will be ignored).
He has asked twice already and I have not replied.
Does anyone have a good way to handle this?

That won't do anything for the value.
If I listed it as $30 value and insure with U-Pic and something happens - I'm pretty sure they will only pay for the declared value.
Same with USPS should I send it priority.

U-PIC does not care or know how much is the declared amount on the customs form, they go by the coverage $$ you want and the premium you paid.
BUT THEY WILL ASK TO SEE THE EBAY LISTING
Insuring jewelry is more expensive .
If you have U-PIC insurance, you can send first class mail ,if it is lost, you lose on Paypal but get it back from U-PIC.

There is an interesting thread on Ebay seller Central of a guy who shipped an $800 necklace to Australia ,he claimed he used Express mail, insured for 700 since EM covers the first 100 dollars, with customs form.
The buyer filed PAYPAL Complaint of item not received,Paypal allows for more days for the package to show up.
The package showed up,buyer used Ebay email to tell him package arrived and left good feedback but did nothing closing the Paypal dispute.
Now Paypal demanded online tracking but Aussie post office did not post anything so Paypal froze his account.
What is strange is that the customs number he used is for first class mail and not express mail and with first class mail, tracking with customs number usually a hit and miss ,most of the time, there is no tracking all the way?
now paypal threatens to send him a cease and desist letter if he keeps contacting them !
and our post office said nothing they can do?
so he is contacting Ebay since the buyer used Ebay email to say he got the necklace.
Stay tuned!
