Have a cell phone on ebay. It's a relist as the first time it sold the buyer never paid. Was going to do a second chance but the next highest bidder had 200+ feedbacks in the last couple weeks, all from $80-140 cellphone purchases. Some reason that made me pause.
Anyway, on the relist I have 7 bids from 4 different ID's. All zero feedback. The high bidders account was created in Oct 07. The others were just this year (Jan, July and Aug).
I realize that I am in a high scam area on ebay with this auction.

High bidder has been going at 4 different phones.
2 of the last 3 have bid on several different models of cell phones.
1 Bidder has only bid on my phone.

are they from overseas?
There was a time bidders would ban on prebanned ivory or used digital cameras or vintage fur for exports, now used digital camera is no big deal and you can get new fur from China/

If you are worried, set your preferences to exclude zero feedback bidders from bidding.

I think I got that set now.
Well, the item sold. To the previously mentioned buyer who's been on a smartphone spending spree since July. Hundreds of them.
Seriously, who has $20-30,000 to spend on used phones? And why?

I was driving down the road the other day and noticed a new store that sells used cell phones. Perhaps that is why.
Used phones are quite popular b/c people can purchase a cheap used replacement phone if theirs is lost or stolen vs. paying outrageous prices for phones through their phone provider.

That may be it. Whoever purchased it has a computer repair store. Maybe they have an extremely lucrative business selling used smartphones there as well.

just curious, but what kind of phone was it?
i'm getting ready to list my HTC G1 this weekend. I bought a new Samsung Vibrant which is absolutely amazing. I can cruise through eBay very quickly to determine values of items.
Good to know what to expect for bidding.

Was an HTC Fuze, nice phone hardware but I hated Windows Mobile.

I went through about 7 G1s during my two years of owning it. Very problematic. It got pretty ugly with TMobile. At one point I filed a complaint with the FCC and BBB because TMobile lied to me. I couldn't even use my phone in my house it was so terrible... it was the model phone, not the phone. When I originally purchased the phone TMobile told me the problem was that a local tower wasn't working. That was 2 years ago. They said it would be up in a few weeks (just enough time for their 14 day return period to end)... months later and no improvement. Constant dropped calls at my house.
My old phone got great reception, my new Samsung gets great reception. Everyone in my household that also uses TMobile with different phones got great reception. It was just the G1.
TMobile's solution after I filed a complaint was to offer me a refurbished different phone. An old Blackberry model, and they wanted me to pay for it while they were giving better/new versions away to new customers.

Well, the buyer paid earlier this week. Phone was delivered and signed for on Thursday. Haven't heard anything negative so far.
