I'm having some concerns about the new eBay condition concerns. Specifically, I'm now selling some vintage paper doll books. Some date from the 50's and 60's and have never been used. However, some show some age-browning. The only two categories are "used" and "new". The "new" means "as it would be directly from the manufacturer". This does not apply as there is evidence of age. However, the items have NOT been used. I don't want to mislead my bidders so have been checking "used" but explaining in the description. Don't guess this is a question...more like a mini-rant.

You may not have to put Item Condition in if you are listing them under the Collectibles Category.

I share your concern. I often sell old craft knitting and sewing patterns. Sometimes they are perfect, but how can I put "new" when they are from the 30's and 40's. They are not used either. I think we need another category "vintage unused", or something like that.

I hate that ebay is filling out a detail condition report for us now - their condition report doesn't always reflect the true condition. I think this can be misleading to buyer and could hurt us on "As Described"

Drives me nuts too. NEW condition OK, but when ebay attaches that "Brand New" into the condition description it leaves the seller open to poor ratings if the item does not appear as it did at the moment of manufacture before shipping.

I get dinged every time I have a buyer in bad mood who expects the item to not even have paper dust on it from packaging material. This needs to STOP!

New, as received from manufacturer, should allow for slight signs of handling, barely noticeable shelfware, etc.

There needs to be classifications of NEW such as Brand New (good luck with that), NEW ( shipped from reseller), New/Old Stock (anything older than x years old), Like New (previous owned but un-used), etc.

FYI, I only wasted my time adding to this post because I know Vendio boards get read by the pinks and maybe, just maybe someone at ebay will wake up long enough to readdress this issue.

I've been listing these under "dolls-paper" but might check the collectibles category...thanks for suggestion. LtRay...I HOPE someone at eBay reads this...and hopefully be reminded that some of us go WAAAAY back on eBay and belong to that original group of sellers who sell vintage itmes. Not all of us are mega-sellers who sell from a vast supply of overstocked items...

It depends on the category. Collectibles and Antiques don't require condition, however other categories do.

What is frustrating is when you have something that is new, but there is not a perfect category except in collectibles, or you have a vintage piece and there is no category in collectibles, but there is in another category.

For example, I sold two Coleman Lanterns this summer that were very highly sought after. I didn't see anything under collectibles, so I put it under Sports in the Camping Gear/Lanterns category.

Ebay's perfect world is often a nightmare for sellers and buyers. I think they do this purposely so that buyers can leave low DSRs and take away our discounts.
