Hi all! I have not posted lately but I still check the board from time to time. I don't see as many appeals for assistance in identifying objects these days but I hope someone who knows cut glass can point me in the right direction. I have two cut glass vases that belonged to my husband's grandmother. I know nothing about cut glass and my internet searches are not finding any matches. If someone could suggest some more specific search terms or internet sites that might help I would really appreciate some input. Brilliant? Leaded? Pattern name?

The first is 12 1/2 inches tall and appears to me to be in great condition. the second is 8 1/2 inches tall and (thanks to my clumsiness) has a good size chip on the rim. If I remembered how to make the emoticons I would do a crying face here.

Thanks again for any assistance.

Have you looked for a cut-glass site somewhere? Googled, perhaps? Wish I could help you but I have some glass of my own which I can't identify yet (haven't begun trying). The Ebay group for glass and pottery might be the place to post your photos. Good luck! Adele

They are both beautiful vases. Unfortunately, the chipped one is pretty much a dead issue. Most likely wouldn't draw a bid on eBay.
The larger vase is quite unique, and with the proper photos, should draw interest.
To find out the pattern name, go to eBay Communities Discussion boards Pottery and glass. There are some amazing experts lurking there. They will ask for clear photos of the pattern and base.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have thought of the eBay boards. I got some good answers from them in the past. I have Googled cut glass and found some interesting sites but without knowing more about what to ask for I can not get any idea of value.

Can't help with the pattern name but do your searchs using American Brilliant Cut Glass.

Found this website with some good IDs http://abpglass.com/

As for the chipped vase, do not write it off just yet. There are enough AB collectors out there that even chipped pieces are worth selling if it is by a good maker such as Hawkes. AB is heavy enough and worth enough that some collectors would have it repaired.

Thanks LTRay, I did find the site you mention but without a pattern or maker it was not much help. I did post pictures on the eBay glass and china board and am getting suggestions there. Once I have some possible pattern names I am going to the library to check out some of the glass books there.
