I've been watching and I cried myself to sleep last night. . . . Well, maybe not.
But I was saddened by the results. I've watched this show for years and every season there is some person or two who gets voted off while a less talented person is still competing. But this one just seemed ridiculous. Brandy just did so well in every dance - I can't believe she's not going to be in the finals.

It's not about the dancing. It's about the personalities.
I'm surprised Brandy lasted as long as she did, what with her killing that woman on the freeway a couple of years ago and buying off the entire family (and then some). And then she tried to portray herself as the victim, in a "package" about the hardships she'd had to endure.
Call me crazy, but I suspect a lot of people don't like that kind of behavior. Plus both she and Jennifer Grey have come off as generally selfish and unlikeable for much of the season. Contrast that with Nicole Scherzinger, last season's winner, who seemed to be all about family. And Maks didn't help Brandy's cause any by getting into a peeing match with Mistress Carrie.
One of the big bonuses for me this season has been the judges' dismay at being completely disregarded by the viewing audience, who so far have voted out almost all the judges' darlings. It's so funny! It might be time to get some new judges.
Yes, I watch DWTS. It's a guilty pleasure.

I have to agree.
I was not a Brandy fan nor a fan of her partner.
I think that Bristol has done remarkably well for someone who has never performed or danced ballroom style and should get an award for 'Most Improved'. Her partner Mark has been so patient with her.
My choice for winner is Jennifer Gray or should I say Derek Hough or actually both of them together!
I keep telling my daughter that I would give anything for just one dance with Derek. He is a marvellous dancer and choreographer and can pretty much make anyone look good!

toolhound...OK...you are right! LOL!
I am a huge figure skating fan too but have to say I have never heard of any of the 'STARS' on the promos of the new show and the Pro's they are skating with are not exactly household names.
We are just coming to the finale of a neat skating show on our TV network in Canada. All well known names. Jamie Sale, Theo Fleury, Isabel Brasseur etc...
It is called Battle of the Blades and paired big tough hockey guys with female pros to learn pairs skating! It has been wonderful and the Hockey players have had their eyes opened!
Okay...I shall go away now!!

Call me old fashioned but I fail to see how an unmarried teenage girl who gets knocked up then goes around preaching the virtues of abstinance is any kind of "star". If Bristol Palin didn't have shoulders, she couldn't "dance". The injustice is that several others, like Kurt Warner, who were MUCH better dancers and who seemed to be an honest-to-goodness positive role model, got voted off. Tea, anyone?
(Thanks, Fluf...I KNEW I got the first name wrong but had a semi senior moment...)

Yeah, that was Kurt Warner.
And he's obviously a great guy. It's hard for those big men to be graceful. I think he worked hard at it, as did Rick Fox, but like Tom Bergeron said last season, somebody's got to go each week or they don't have a show.
Derek is always pushing the envelope with the choreography. Sometimes he even programs moves he can't do well, like that freestyle lift in last season's finals. I can't wait to see Jennifer and Derek's freestyle.

I was rooting for and voting for Brandy and Maks to win and was very disappointed last week when they were voted off. Maks loses his temper at least once every season. I agree that is getting old, but I love to see him dance. I don't keep up much on celebrity gossip and I didn't realize there was such a strong anti-Brandy sentiment, until she spoke in a clip on the show about people calling her a killer after she was involved in a fatal car crash. In the same clip she said that it was proven that she wasn't at fault, I just took that at face value. But, I suspect that clip hurt her in the votes department.
An anti-Jennifer sentiment I completely understand. She keeps whining about being 50 and her neck problems. I mean really, it's not as if she agreed to do the show and then out of the blue realized she had a neck problem and that she turned 50 on her last birthday. She has seemed like a phony to me since day one.
I don't think I'm really rooting for anyone right now, as much as hoping that Jennifer doesn't win.
What it really seems to come down to is a popularity contest. I just think that with Bristol this is the first season that there has been such a obvious disparity between popularity and talent.

Cherished....how much I agree with your last sentence and also with Blueeyes earlier comments about Bristol Palin.
She is not a star of any description however as they did ask her to be on the show someone obviously thought she would be good for ratings! I do still think that she has learnt the dances well technically (with her feet) but is still lacking the emotion but that is because she is not a 'performer'.
I am still rooting for Derek Hough to win and make it two seasons in a row and Jennnifer is an exquisite dancer. I think by the time we get down to 4 or 5 dancers each year we all get pretty tired of the same old problems (ie: neck & being 50) being shown all the time.
Young Kyle has come a long way too and he has such a sweet personality and is not a whiner!
We shall see what tonight brings!

I've only watched season 10 and now 11, so I don't really have any kind of historical perspective.
And I don't have any "dog" in the fight tonight either. I wouldn't worry about Bristol Palin winning; as I recall, it comes down to judges' scores at the end. So it's either going to be Jennifer or that kid whose name I keep forgetting. Kyle. So it probably will be Jennifer. Sorry. At least it'll be fun to see what Derek comes up with.

Derek & Jennifer's Paso Doble moved me almost to tears. It was stunning.
Bristol was OK but I agree a song like that was about everything that she is not.
Kyle was cute as a button.
Watched the first 15 minutes of Skating with the Stars, that was enough for me.

IMO, comparing Bristol and Mark's _Chicago_ number with the movie is completely unreasonable.
Neither Catherine Zeta-Jones or Renee Zellweger are professional dancers, yet they looked really good in _Chicago_. Why? They rehearsed it over and over, then filmed it over and over again, probably for at least a week of filming the same two minutes of dance. Then the best bits, only a few seconds long, were edited into what you see on the screen.
Next time you watch Chicago, notice how choppy the editing is. It's to cover up the fact that the stars can't dance.
Now contrast that with five days of rehearsal divided by two (since Bristol had to learn two dances) and one shot at doing the dance live. No do-overs and no edits.
The judges are in the business, they know this and they banged on her anyway. Completely unfair.

These shows all have a plan high ratings which bring in cash. The judges ragging on sweet little Bristol created the prefect underdog story and it worked like a charm. Win or loose Bris lugs a bucket of cash back to AK.
