I thought I was downloading 2011 free but now they want to bill me. I must have clicked the wrong box or something.
Isn't the free AVG good enough?
If I don't want the upgrade should I uninstall what I have and start over?

Web sellers over use the word FREE and almost nothing is. Usually the free version of something like AVG has restrictions. These can be a trial period, some critical fetures may not work until you pay. If you are asking here then your computer is part of your business and much to valuable to trust to a free virus program, although from what I read AVG is a good one. I use one from Kaspersky.com.
To answer your Q you haven't really installed anything yet but you may have to start over to get the free version.

We have used the free version of AVG for several years and it has always worked very well for us.
We keep getting asked to upgrade to the version that we have to pay for and we just say no!

Yes I had the free version of AVG for over a year as well and it seem to work fine. However when I upgraded to 2011 it turned out to be a trial only - for 30 days. That has expired and now I don't seem to have anything. I guess I'll remove everything and start over.

That was easy. I started to remove it and a window popped up asking if I wanted to the switch to the free version.

Glad you solved it quickly.
I almost did the same thing because it kept popping up suggesting a move to the 2011 version.
The free one updates every day and I find that quite adequate for me.
I think maybe it depends what you use your computer for too. My adult grandaughter is ALL over the Internet looking at things and probably isn't too careful about checking for little 'padlocks' etc. It took 3 days to rid her computer of the last problem! She is a case for a fancy Anti-virus system!

I do EBay and check out places to travel and I know enough to be cautious....therefore FREE AVG works for me!

I'm cautious about where I go on the web mostly eBay and g-mail. I've used AVG Free for quite awhile (atleast 5 years). I use an old version Windows 98.
I had a computer whiz come over and set up 3 wireless connections for me. He said the version I have will protect me against existing viruses and etc. and the new malious stuff is aimed at the newer versions.

brown...I think your computer tech was probably very right in saying that the older versions of Windows don't get hit so hard.

We (meaning my DH) also run AdAware and the other one whose name escapes me as it is getting to be way past my bedtime! He has it set up on my computer to run automatically a couple of times a week.
