I got this email for an item that was shipped on 12/20/10.

Notice: Your buyer tried to open a case. Please contact the buyer.

Dear xxxxxxx,

A buyer tried to open an eBay Buyer Protection case because the item hasn't arrived yet. It was too soon to open a case, so we asked the buyer to contact you. If you haven't already heard from the buyer, we recommend you get in touch with the buyer. Most issues can be worked out through email or a simple phone call.

BUYER ID ITEM # LISTING TITLE CASE ATTEMPT DATE
katydyd223 Lenox Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil Figurine NIB Thimble 2010-12-30

I looked for all the info to try to refute this, still had the DC slip, but PO records do not go back that far. I called Ebay and was on hold so long, I gave up. Called back later and a recording said that a bunch of these notices had gone out in error!!

This item, a very small amount of money was tracked as delivered. The buyer left me a scathing FB and all 1s which for a time caused me to lose my TRS. Ebay was no help at all and now I am plagued with it again!!

Glad it was a mistake, but how does this kind of thing happen after almost a year!!

Could any of these messages be scams?

They are not scams. There was nothing really to link to because the item # was not active and Ebay contact phone # said right up front (the second time I called) that a bunch of these notices have gone out in error.

Due to a technical issue, you may have received an email from eBay Buyer Protection on November 22, 2011. The purpose of the email was to inform you that one or more buyers tried to open a case against you (though it was too soon to do so).

However, case alerts identified in the email may have been sent to you in error; these would be resends of past cases. Please check the Case Attempt Dates in the email carefully, and work to resolve any recent issues that are still outstanding.

With apologies for the inconvenience,

eBay

Ebay IT dept could be doing some maintenance and accidentally 'resurrected' some old files,it is interesting to know Ebay kept their files for so long, going back one year.
Make a note to yourself when Uncle comes calling,Ebay may have to surrender your transaction history going back to god know how many years!
