It is getting awfully close to the time when we will see the next update announced so I thought we could talk about our dreams...I will start:-
It should require just two paragraphs:-
"Effective October 1st we will return to being 'Just a Venue' and will allow our Customers (The Sellers) to run their own Businesses.
We have finally realised that it is the Sellers who pay us and the majority of Sellers are perfectly capable of handling their customers (the Buyers) without our assistance or interference"

At the very least I think eBay should axe the absurd requirements on sellers.
First, Item Not As Described should be cut down to 21 days. There is no reason for a 45 day policy.
Second, the latest updates should be axed. I am being punished because of the business I operate. It is impossible for us to meet these absurd requirements. 1 day handling is impossible when we are on the road. I can't just print labels and issue tracking information within 1 day for many pieces we sell. I don't keep boxes for everything we have on eBay. A chair or large lamp requires a very large box which may have to be special ordered and takes up to 2-3 days to prepare for shipment.
I am either forced to hire an employee to meet eBay demand or don't follow their new requirements. Either way it costs me more money.
14 day return policy for vintage collectibles? This is absurd and goes beyond the standard no return policy of antique/collectible businesses.
Not only do I lose my 20% discount, but my items are getting buried in search.
eBay seriously wants me to disappear, yet I am a great seller with stellar feedback and DSRs. Go figure.

I don't know if this helps at all, but I just read this on the new update board:
"To clarify, the 1-day handling time is not required to achieve Top Rated seller status. And, for listings that offer Freight shipping, a 1-day handling time is not required to qualify for the the 20% final value fee discount if a 14-day or better return policy with money back option is offered."

Did you see the new rule? If you cancel an auction that has a bid, there will be a charge - no matter the reason!

Many of us in small towns are really concerned (putting it mildly) with the new requirement to enter your zip code as the location.
I understand the desire to stop sellers from putting non-relevant information in the field, but pinpointing our location so closely can become a real problem.
One pink suggestion was to change our user name so we would be less recognizable...oh yes, after years of gaining recognition amoung buyers by our seller name, that is surely what we want to do.

So what is with the zip code thing? Are we going to have to change all of our listings yet again or is it going forward? This has me nervous with almost 9,000 store listings.

As I read the FAQ's, you will not need to update your current listings. The listings will default to the country or the zip on file.
So it appears that there is no inbetween...either a vague country designation or pinpointing your location.
I would be happy to switch from my current N.E. Pennsylvania designation to USA, but unfortunately it will then affect shipping calculators...and with my items & location, calculated shipping is really the only way to go.
Pinpointing our locations is not something that, (as eBay puts it when hiding our ID's suits their purposes), "will help make eBay a safer envoirnment for buyers and sellers".

Ebay will F**** with it until they break it and then go broke. They keep changing things, sooner or later, there will be only BIG sellers, and the rest of us will leave and get our own websites.

I've been collecting Sale Tax for years - only for my state.
Now that paypal does 1099's - you have to report all your sales anyway so it's time to run it like a real business.

I agree,we are marching towards being more professional, run it like a business.
Cant hide behind an email addr,if you dont want your home to be known, then rent a mail box!
If we cant be around to ship and upload tracking number because we are away, hire a helper.
There is no shortage of sellers,if we cant meet its demand,we just have to drop out and go elsewhere.

I received a phone call from the state dept asking if I were collecting sales tax last year.
They have someone placed an order with me before they called.
Now I am collecting sales tax,but I AM STILL WAITING FOR A PACKAGE TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO FROM THE STATE DEPT AND IT HAS BEEN 7 MONTHS NOW!

We are a business and have always collected all required sales taxes.
Re PO Box...I don't know why anyone thinks this solves the issue of your zip code being on-line for any casual internet troller. I heard the eBay rep scoffing at the idea that this could allow a seller's home to be located and was very put off by this.
Both these sentiments obviously come from people who live in suburban or urban areas. I have lived in both and if I still did, I would not a problem with the zip code either.
But in this small town renting a PO Box (which we already do) is no answer to anonymity. The area, though sparsely populated, is widespread and the only way this works if we were to rent a PO Box and do business at a PO "on the other side of the mountain"...25 minutes away each way...just not practical.

25 minutes each way, some drive for 40 minute or more.
But how much mail do you think you are going to get from the mail box (if it is just for Ebay)?
And what is the chance of being burglarised or robbed because you sell on Ebay,it depends on what you sell, unless you are a coin dealer or high end jeweler,I would think the chance is slim.
Besides precious metals ,I would think electronic stuff is what the burglars want most.

I agree with you and dislike when sellers use vague terms in the field. I am totally for a state and county designation. That is absolutely appropriate.
But pinpoint accuracey is really not necessary.
Was thinking today that perhaps those of us who live in sparsely populated areas could go with the country designation in the field and add a shipped from designation, like northeast Pennsylvaia, in the Item Specifics area.

We don't have sales tax in Oregon, so it is not an issue unless a national sales tax comes around.
We have always paid income tax on our eBay/internet sales. Just because Paypal issued 1099's suddenly doesn't mean you aren't responsible for paying taxes on earned income from past years. All it means is that Paypal is now covering their butts and making sure the responsibility for reporting is directly upon your shoulders. The law is very clear on this and those who gamble with not reporting income are complete idiots because there is an electronic trail that is very easy to access by auditors. If you get caught, then you pay what you owe, late fees, and penalties.
Basically, if you are selling items to make a profit... you are a business and you are responsible to report any profits above $400. You can report those as self-employment or under a business.
As far as I am concerned those who don't pay taxes and are selling to make a profit (buy low/sell high) and don't report it are scumbags.

I doubt too many are reporting a net profit ,after deducting expenses.
