Looked at my items today, no longer have TRS badge. No notice. Oh well. My tracking wasn't up to snuff. Now I don't have to worry about it at all!!
Didn't get discount anyway since I do not offer 1 day shipping. Don't really care.

Hey Marrie don't get down!! The way eBay works these days your TRS could be back tomorrow, in a hour, next week.

As a Canadian listing on ebay.com I am not a TRS now either but when I look at my items on ebay.ca...I am.
I don't really think too many buyers look on ebay.ca because although we are a HUGE Country we have a SMALL population so we mostly use ebay.com.
For Canadian Sellers it all has to do with the tracking requirement which is not as easy or inexpensive to get through Canada Post.
I have chuckled over the last 4 packages I have received from US Sellers...they were all sent First Class Mail which is fine by me as it is cheaper for me and nothing has ever gone missing in 11 years but they all provided me with a Tracking Number which of course shows nothing except the receiving Post Office in their hometown. I think they used the Customs Form number.
What these latest requirements have done is to raise the cost of shipping in many instances to the point where I will not buy.
One single handkerchief and the seller is charging $24.25 Shipping. This was not an isolated case.
One small spoon....$24.25 Shipping. Many silly shipping costs out there.
For a 20% discount on Final Value Fees some Sellers are pricing themselves totally out of selling to anyone other than the United States.

without tracking,we could lose our merchandise and shipping if an overseas buyer claim no receipt.
Some overseas buyers will click on the tracking number on My Ebay and when it does not show it has been delivered ,they will file dispute and get free merchandise !
It has happened to me several times.

In 11 years I have never had a parcel that I sent to anywhere in the World get lost nor have I not received any parcel sent to me.
There have been a few delays with parcels especially to Hawaii for some reason and the only Negative we have received was not from an overseas buyer but a very impatient lady in Arizona.
We have never used any type of 'Signature Required' confirmation because it is cost prohibitive through Canada Post.
Now we only sell small items with small dollar value (for the most part) so it isn't an issue.
If we charged for Tracking etc. then our Shipping Costs would be like those I mentioned in my last post and we just wouldn't have any Buyers!

Merrie,
I do take chances,I sell to many overseas buyers, sometimes I will insure the package and sometimes I sent by express mail or priority mail with tracking.
But the problem with USPS shipping is that we are at the mercy of the foreign post office, they dont have to upload the tracking information, they dont even have to scan the package when delivered, not much our post office can do.
Some Ebay sellers ship DHL with a 30% discount but it will stil come to 100 dollars or more.
Most buyers are honest,I am not complaining but just to explain to our Canadian colleague why some sellers do not ship overseas or charge high shipping costs.

Lost...I also understand your point of view.
I think (I KNOW) eBay has Sellers running scared because each sale we make could be our last one if we are suspended over a relatively minor problem with an irate Buyer.
What I don't understand is if a Seller feels they have to send one handkerchief in a Flat Rate Priority Box with Delivery Confirmation and a sample of the recipient's Blood and a DNA test result from their first born child then why on earth are they even selling outside of their own Country? They need to stay within their comfort zone.
I have been looking for a couple of items recently and each time I found what I wanted, the Seller would only ship to the United States. I DO understand but it is so frustrating from a Buyers point of view.
Buyers are leaving in droves and this is just one of the many reasons....we can't get what we want and if we do find it then the shipping is unreasonable compared to the cost of the item.
EBay has instilled almost a sense of paranoia into Sellers (not completely unjustified)....SAD!

Merrie - I'm surprised they didn't notify you. When I lost my TRS, seems like they sent me a couple of notices.
Not that there is much you can do about it by that time anyway. It took me 2 or 3 months to get mine back and mine was due to the number of sells I had - nothing else.

Otteropp,
Beforer Paypal and all that seller and buyer protection, buyers used to send personal check, money order and cash in the mail.
If you see something you like, you may email the seller and arrange to pay by Canadian postal order denominated in US dollars.
Japan and Canada are the only post offices which sell us dollar denominated postal orders which we can cash in our post office.
Of course you will get no buyer protection if seller does not ship or ship you junk.
And the seller gets no protection if you neg her or worse get a fake postal order.
A popular scam is that a buyer will send you a US postal money order for 1000 dollars and ask you to remit the difference and ship the package ASAP.
The postal order is fake ,it has no water mark and the texture is different.

Some buyers like the Japanese and Chinese, will use a service based in US and it will forward all their packages.
I know there is one based in Ca,for the Chinese, they buy a lot on Ebay USA and resell them in Chinese auctions.

I was dropped because I did not upload tracking on all my items. I do not use PayPal for my postage, so sometimes I did not upload the tracking right away. Since I do not offer 1 day shipping & have some items with NO RETURNS, I no longer qualified for the discount, so what difference does it make.
I have issues about tracking, any way. Of course I protect myself & have DCs on everything. But, isn't it a joke. As "lost" stated, the PO can show it delivered, but to the wrong person.
Initially DC was to protect the seller, so they had proof that the item was shipped & delivered. Not so that the buyer could figure out where the item was every step of the way. I know times have changed & there is more funny stuff going on, but in the past even though I had DCs I did not share that info with the buyers always because sometimes the item was delivered & the buyer was happy, but the PO person "forgot" to scan. Now, the buyers are savy enough to know that if the item is not scanned as delivered even if the have the item in hand, they can claim nonreceipt!!
Like I said being dropped has lowered my stress level since there is no reason to jump thru hoops!!

For domestic shipments,if you ship an item under $250 and DC showed it has been delivered but buyer said he did not get it (whether he is lying or it was stolen or post office misdelivered to his neighbor),I believe Ebay/Paypal seller protection protects you.
But if the item is over $250 and all you have is the DC and no signature confirmation, then you are not protected, you must have signature confirmation with anything over 250 dollars including shipping.
I see many sellers offer free shipping or ship the cheapest way,no insurance and no signature confirmation for 250 dollars item, they are just asking for trouble,as many of us do live in apt buildings and subdivisions.
I never understand the calibre of the postal workers, jobs are scarce and post office jobs are decent jobs, but everytime my regular postman goes on leave or day off,her replacements just dont know what they are doing or make mistakes ??
You would think they should be trained well before going on their routes?

I am now a TRS and Ebay never tell me,I found that out when I notice the TRS logo by my seller ID.
But then when I looked at my dashboard,my communication rank is at risk next month,so I upload my dc fast, someone still find reason to neg me on communications!

I lost TRS too - I will not add Delivery Confirmation to my packages no matter what carrot they dangle in front of my nose. Buyers do not want or need that for postcards. It is so silly really. I notice that the postcard sellers who are TRS usually have jacked up prices and high shipping which lowers them in search anyway. The majority of postcard dealers must feel the same way I do - hardly any TRS any more.
It's hard to say what effect it has on my business. Business has been terrible for some time now - cause undetermined. Here are my theories: 1) Not many buyers on eBay anymore. Listings do not come up in Google search (at least postcards) except in a general way - usually can't see the item you are searching for when you click on the link. 2) All the "free" listings are killing sales 3) I am not working as hard as I used to (probably should be reason number 1)
I for one do not use eBay search to find things I want to buy anymore - usually Amazon has what I need at the best price without risk of flaky sellers so I search there and buy there. I used to buy impulse things like jewelry and DVDs on eBay - I don't even look for impulse buys these days.
My husband buys stamps and postcards for his collection on eBay and he is happy. Of course he refuses to use any other browser than AOL because that's what he is used to and I am sure there are other buyers that really don't want to try any unfamiliar venues too.
My daughter wanted to by a GPS watch for running and was looking on eBay - I told her to go to Amazon and look for Amazon Prime. That way she knows she won't get knockoffs or ripped off from some Chinese seller. It was easier than telling her what to look for in seller feedback.

Just got my notice from Ebay that my status changed. I guess thry figured I wouldn't have noticed it a week ago. I noticed, but did not care. Once the discount was pulled from me there was no incentive.

Neglus, I am confused about your reference to Amazon Prime. I am a big Amazon user esp fpr books. I understood Amazon Prime was a fee membership so you got your items faster & free shipping with membership. I always get free shipping since I always make sure I spend $25 per order. I thought it was a buyer's program, nothing to do with seller's credentials.
posted on August 28, 2012 03:37:01 PM new
You may be right. I always thought that the Prime items were sold by Amazon itself and not third party sellers or maybe it is just that the orders are fulfilled by Amazon.

You are still your own boss,it is just you have to find a way to drive traffic to your Ebay store.
I wonder what next?
How fast we respond to 'ask a question',some sellers are not around to reply,by the time they do,I have either lost interst or dont remember why I am interested in the item or found something else?

otteropp,
Same for me, DRS on .ca but not on .com. There is no way I can mail most of my items with tracking, we just don't have that on lettermail in Canada, and no-one is going to pay to have low price craft patterns mailed at package rate.
For Canadians it seems like a lose, lose situation, we can't mail with tracking so we lose TRS, and it's costing more to purchase items from the US because it cost them more to ship with tracking.

Here in USA,I will ship first class to foreign country and when I print my shipping label, there is a 'tracking number' but this number is not trackable once it leaves the country, but it seems this is good enough for Ebay.
So,when you print a first class label in Canada,do you get a worthless tracking number like we do,then why dont you upload that number,it may just be good enough for Ebay.
it shows you have shipped, thats good enough for buyers who pay for cheap shipping ,if they want more, then they have to pay me express mail $$

I see UK sellers on Ebay-USA ,they are TRS and they ship registered mail,25 dollars is what they charge for shipping to USA.
I have shipped EXpress Mail envelope to Canada for 18 dollars, but to rest of the world,it is 38.
