In October we'll have to download at least one picture thru eBay along with our listing.
Since I've been with Auction Watch/Vendio since I started on eBay, I have no idea how to accomplish this.
Any suggestions?

Yes, I just saw this in an ebay email too!
•Make sure you’re ready for the October requirement that all new and revised listings and re-listings contain at least one eBay hosted photo
!!!!!!!!
Slipped by me in the Fall Update and has just sent me in a tailspin about how to comply. Sheeesh. This could be really problematic. I am totally unfamiliar with all hosting and listing procedures as done through eBay.
I keep hoping that I missing something here.

I saw the notice about including at least one eBay hosted picture and went over to eBay to check out the picture hosting procedure.
I believe that I have been spoiled with the ease of use of Vendio picture hosting all these years.

Answers would be appreciated. I am in the same spot - always used Auction Watch/Vendio - don't know how to host pics on eBay.

This is what I am going by - but it's really not very clear:
Picture requirements to make your listings look great
Using lots of high-quality pictures is a great way to help sell your item. Quality pictures also show off eBay as a great place to shop. That’s why last February, eBay announced new requirements for pictures and picture quality. Here’s an update on how those new policies will be enforced: •Starting in October, you’ll no longer be able to submit a listing through the eBay listing tools (Sell Your Item, Turbo Lister, or Blackthorne) that doesn’t include at least one picture. This requirement will apply to new, revised, and relisted items.
•To give sellers more time to comply, other requirements announced in February will take effect in 2013: ◦A stock photo can only be used for new or refurbished items.
◦All pictures must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
◦Pictures may not include added borders, text, or artwork except for watermarks for ownership and attribution.
•These picture requirements apply to pictures uploaded to eBay picture hosting. Note that pictures uploaded into the listing description are not optimized for buyers viewing listings on mobile devices, a fast growing channel for eBay sellers.

It sounds like Ebay wants to make sure those who are using mobile devices will get to see at least one good picture on Ebay as they are not sure any picture embedded in item description can be viewed on a mobile device.

I *think* (hope) that the gallery picture selected is hosted by ebay now (if you right click on it, the image information is no longer Vendio). Perhaps Vendio CS can verify this? If that's the case, then we don't have to do anything.
I have viewed my listings on my smart phone and the Vendio images in the description work just fine for viewing on mobile.

For example, if you right click on the Gallery Image (make it big first) "View Image Info" you will get an address that doesn't refer back to Vendio. For example, one of mine listed in 2010 and sold this week has this as the Image location: "http://i.ebayimg.com/t/043010A-VINTAGE-ADVERTISING-POSTCARD-CHROME-VINYL-CHAIR-AD-/03/!B6vWI)Q!mk~$(KGrHqMOKo4Ey+jCzfCZBMy(HNbnC!~~-1_3.JPG".
Q!mk~$(KGrHqMOKo4Ey+jCzfCZBMy(HNbnC!~~-1_3.JPG)
I tested another one listed on 2010 and it went to Vendio so not sure how far back this goes! Hope I don't have to redo all my old listings!

neglus - that's what I was hoping as well.
Another thing that may confirm this is when you delete your photos from Vendio - the top photo doesn't go away.
As for the photo in the listing on smart phones - on my smart phone if you view the description all the photos are there from Vendio and they look pretty good to me. You can expand them as well which I can't do with ebay's photos.

That is what I am hoping...that the gallery picture "counts".
But I would like some confirmation that this satifies ebay's new requirement. I'm sure a Vendio rep will be let us know by Monday.
Meanwhile my fingers are crossed!
I also see all my Vendio pix just fine on my iphone.

Chris just confirmed this on the Sales Manager board.

Hello,
Sorry for the confusion about the new eBay image hosting requirements. Note that every listing that you send to eBay from your Vendio account directly automatically places one photo in the eBay image hosting server - as this is the photo they use for the gallery picture.
The announced change should only effect users who never list with any photo's at all - or whom only list with image URL's/HTML pasted directly into their item description fields.
Regards,
Chris
Edited to add: seeing the images seemingly hosted in different places - this would likely be due to changes over time on who hosted the Title bar photo (not to be confused with the actual gallery picture next to the title in search results.) "

I can completely understand why eBay is requiring this and to be honest, they should require ALL photos to be hosted through eBay.
The reason is that photos can be changed simply by deleted the image from the host site and then uploading a new photo with the exact same title. It may take up to 15 minutes for the image to change, but once it does nobody will know.
I did this a few times while auctions were on eBay with no bids. I would realize there were duplicates or I took a better photo later.
With that said, someone could change the photo after a listing ends or even after bids are made and act as if the item had a flaw detailed in the later photo.

That someone would only be the seller?

I think they are doing this to make sure that the mobile buyer has a uniform experience on the site. Remember, they are trying to Amazonify eBay and this is one way of getting there.

Walmart is introducing mobile checkout and has asked its employees to beta test.
I wonder if this makes any difference to Ebay checkout?
So far I have not seen it in other brick and mortar stores.

Perhaps the sales clerk puts the cash into their pocket?
