I have complained about DSRs since the day they started because of their inaccuracy. With these new DSR rules, I see a huge flaw. First off, I ship 95% of our items within 24 hours of them selling, well over the 90% required, but because I don't offer returns I am ineligible for an automatic 5 star rating on shipping time???
My shipping time averages 4.95 even though I ship almost everything within 1 day. Anything sold before 12pm on 12/24 went out 12/24. Anything sold after 12pm and through 12/25 was shipped on 12/26. I am not talking just uploaded, but actually at the post office or Fed Ex.
-----------------
Now, as a buyer I also see some major hypocrisy with the same DSR. I ordered bubble wrap from 2 shipping supply companies and 1 order of boxes from another on December 24.
- The first bubble wrap arrived on Jan 3 from Ohio. Perfect.
- The boxes arrived on January 6 from another seller also from Ohio. Fine.
- The last bubble hasn't arrived and it is January 10th. Last shipping record showed it was in Arizona on January 7.
The packages that arrived already were shipped out on Dec 27. The undelivered package was Dec 28. All of these sellers get automatic 5 star rating on shipping time because they offer returns.
Seriously, how is that even legitimate???

Wow, my comments were riddled with errors. Sorry. Fixed my comments.
My point is that eBay bends the rules so much that many sellers are simply taking advantage of the system and eBay is rewarding them for it with auto 5.0 DSR, while legitimate sellers like myself who ship promptly and ship when they say they do have to put up with buyers who think Free Shipping received 2-3 days after they purchase it is slow and ding my shipping.
eBay should make this equal for all sellers. If I upload the info within 24 hours I should automatically get a 5.0 in my shipping time DSR... the same as everyone else. Offering refunds or not have nothing to do with it.

I think you get automatic 5 stars for shipping when it is free? Or is it just if it ships within 24 hours. I don't jump through their hoops for the 20% discount because I do not offer 14 day returns. I will take something back if it is wrong in some way but don't advertise that, just do it.

I quite frankly find the DSRs & the rules associated with so stupid & arbitrary that I no longer pay any attention.
I have 5.0 on every category if you just scan over the stars. I do NOT offer returns, I do NOT do 1 day shipping, I do NOT offer free shipping.
I have given up jumping through hoops since I know I will not qualify for the discount or TRS PLUS status. ( I am a top rated seller, but I do not know who sees it.)
Obviously my buyers are pleased with their transactions. I try to work with them if there are any problems. That's the way I handle it. No fuss, no muss!!

pmelcher - it is in reference to "shipping time" not "shipping cost". I do offer free shipping so I do get an automatic 5.0 for this DSR.
The issue I have is that a buyer gets to rate my shipping time even if I upload my tracking information the same day or within 24 hours of selling the item, while those who offer a 14 day return policy get a free pass on the 5 stars for shipping time. The return policy has nothing to do with shipping time and shouldn't be tied to the DSR.
The other issue I have with this auto 5 star DSR for shipping time is that it has nothing to do with actual shipping time. It has to do with the amount of time a seller takes to upload a tracking number. A seller can ship it 2 weeks later and they still get a 5 star rating.
That is what my complaint is about. I generally have 5.0 across the board, but occasionally I apparently get a rogue buyer who thinks 1 day handling + 5 days shipping to get it across the country is too long even when shipping is free. Right now my DSRs are 5.0, 5.0, 4.9, 5.0. The 4.9 is actually 4.94.
I'm not sure what is worse, this problem or when eBay would round my 4.96 to a 4.9 when buyers would hover over my stars.

If they cant ding your shipping time, they can neg you in the feedback.
I am getting negs and neutral from my buyers, overseas buyers said it is taking too long to arrive, well, have they heard of Hurricane Sandy?
I tried to explain but they dont care.
A repeated overseas buyer complain past shipping with first clas mail is too slow,so with her recent multiple purchases ,instead of giving her partial refund on shipping, I upgraded to overseas priority shipping plus insurance and she gave me a neg.
A domestic buyer noted Ebay said first class mail takes 4 days,so she bought for xmas giving paying first class postage and it did not arrive on time,so it is my fault.

I dont think buyers care if you have a perfect 5,I see many top rated sellers with 4.91-4.93 rating and it does not stop buyers from buying from them.
What buyers are most concered with is 'item as described'.

"wow... that is wrong"
i was kidding and lost knew that.
seriously, it wouldn't matter if we sent something Express, 1st class, media mail. Some buyers will always find something to complain about.
I had someone leave me negative feedback "seller didn't mention this was the small version".
The item description stated, "This is the small version" and even had the dimensions noted.
eBay refused to remove the negative feedback. Sad thing is that it stays for 1 year and the item is only visible for about 90 days. So, if anyone goes back to see what happened, they can't and they assume that the buyer was correct.
