I am trying to find info on declaring gifts for international shipments before I respond to a buyer.

I understand that if I am sending someone a gift I qualify for the gift declaration so that they recipient doesn't pay customs/taxes.

What about if a buyer in the UK buys the item and has it shipped to someone else in the UK as a gift?

What if the buyer in the UK buys the item for a gift, but ships it to themselves in order to give it to someone else as a gift?

It does not matter,UK customs could ignore Gift declaration and slap a customs duty on it.
Only antiques and/or charitable outifts are exempted.
But then UK customs do not slap customs duty on every incoming item,so Lady Luck could be with your UK buyer.

It woould help if you the seller does not show company name or logo.

It was a vintage collectible.

Actual description read, "vintage used glassware"

And, yes, UK customs did in fact attempt to charge a customs duty.

This item was shipped Dec 17 and didn't pass UK customs until Dec 24, after the guaranteed delivery date. It was being shipped to the address registered in the payment, but was a temporary vacation address for the holiday.

UK post office denied the guaranteed delivery time because customs held it for over 24 hours. Nice eh? They instructed me to have the recipient contact them to arrange delivery. I sent her the contact information on January 10. Never heard back, so I assumed she made the arrangements and received the item.

Today she emails me and states that she contacted the post office and they returned the package. I checked the status and it shows it was returned on January 22, 12 days after I sent her the information.

Additionally, she claims that customs held it longer because I didn't mark it as a gift. Obviously, not a valid reason for customs to hold up a package. Now she wants me to resend the package to her, but to use a different address. $55 shipping charges... again??? Oh, and I am sure she expects me to ship it at our cost AND issue her a refund for the late shipping because it was guaranteed though UK denied it. Heck no.

I am changing all of my listings to exclude shipping Internationally. I am tired of it.

I haven't received the return yet, so I don't even know what to expect upon its return.

I get many UK buyers and some would tell me they are a charitable non proift organisation and does not have to pay customs, also there is a dollar threshold, may be 35 dollars or 50 I dont remember.
UK customs,German customs,Canadian customs and Israeli customs all take their time going thru incoming packages, for security reason and for levying customs duty.
I know ours do that diligently as they need the $$.
Oh,add Australian customs to the list as their citizens love to buy overseas with their strong currency!

Yes, but over the last month I have had more issues with UK and Australia buyers than ever before. No idea why other than luck of the draw.

I have a guy from India asking about a belt I have listed. It's a 32 and he wears a 34.
I've measured it excluding the buckle, measured the distance between holes and measured from the start of the leather to the 1st hole and the last hole - all at his request. Now he wants me to guarantee that it will fit him.
I am considering blocking him.
I too am rethinking international all together!!!

If the package you are sending is something you are going to make a profit on then it is not a gift.
