I saw this recently and thought I would share. I am trying to figure out if I can default this for International shipping instead of offering International shipping.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping-globally.html

Most interesting paragraph:

How sellers are protected

Although you're responsible for getting the package safely to the US shipping center, you won't be charged if the item is damaged or lost during international shipping. You're also covered by PayPal Seller Protection, so you get the same protection for your international sales that you get domestically.

I have removed my International shipping, but replaced it with the Global Shipping Program for the items that qualify. I will give it a try.

Sounds similar to the shipping services I did for some Japanese buyers a few years back and if the risk is no different than US, I can work with that.

Anyone have any experience with this??? If so, please share.

Ok,I just read the details,Ebay keeps talking about a US shipping center ?
So wherei is or where are these US shipping centers?
who own them, who operate them, and if we have a question, who do we ask?

read the contact info at the bottom. also, this is an exclusive service offered only to certain sellers. apparently, we are special enough to qualify. lol.

From what I have found so far is that you have to be careful to remember to keep categories that will not charge you the $1.00 for Gallery Plus Fees, which many "new product" categories fall under. I have changed the few back to a collectibles category and now have to contact eBay about a refund.

I knew there would be a catch!

Last year I sold a gold chain to a Russian woman .
This is done outside Ebay, she used her credit card and paid me thru Paypal.
She asked me to ship the item to her son in Moscow,as the family usually have a reunion in Moscow every year and she will be there to receive the item.
I refused to use her son's name but I did ship to her son's address in Moscow using USPS express mail which cost me 38 dollars,I bought insurance with a private insurer online for $100 less than the item price as EXPRESS MAIL carries $100 insurance.
One month later, she used a different ID and bought another gold chain from me,she asked me not to ship via USPS express mail and pointed to USPS website which said gold is not allowed to be shipped using express mail.
Another payment was made via PAYPAL and I shipped via USPS priority mail ,insured with the same online insurer for the full amount.
2 weeks later,on the 45th day after the first gold chain was shipped, she filed an item not received with Paypal(PAYPAL DEADLINE FOR FILING IS 45 DAYS).
I went to USPS website and found the Moscow post office attempted to deliver the package twice .
I contacted USPS and asked them what is going on,they emailed Moscow and found out it is still in Moscow post office.
In the mean time,Paypal ruled in buyer favor as it was never delivered so she won the dispute.
Then I called USPS and asked them to contact Moscow to return the item to me since I lost the dispute,I should get my merchandise back.
Well,USPS went online and found out it has BEEN DELIVERED.
So USPS is now asking Moscow to show any proof the buyer has picked up the package while I called Paypal and ask them to honor their seller protection policy and refund my payment.
Paypal said no online trackable signature confirmation for item over $250,no seller protection, however if I can show signature with some kind of proof that it is coming from a Russian post office or customs, they may consider offering seller protection.
This is when I found out USPS express mail does not have any buyer signature confirmation ,only USPS global express mail does.
I also found out USPS would reimburse my postage $38 if I contact them within 7 days if the package is not delivered, not 45 days.
So I ended up losing my merchandise and my postage.
Fortunately the private insurer approved my claim and reimburse me for whatever coverage I took out which is less than what it costs me,but it is better than nothing.
So far I have not heard from our USPS or Moscow Post office.
Stay tuned,coming next-

Then the same buyer who has bought a second item from me under a different name and address in Moscow filed another item not received dispute with Paypal.
I know I will lost the dispute since USPS priority mail has no signature confirmation, but this item is fully insured with an online insurer so hopefully they will approve the claim.
I learned a very expensive lesson,I was getting too confident shipping overseas, sometimes I will take out insurance, sometimes I do not, depending on the item, the size of the payment and the country.
Not all Russian buyers are crooks, but gold is a touchy merchandise,it makes people do crazy things, and this woman is a pro,she is not based in UK,she knows about USPS express mail, priority mail and when to file for dispute and when to pick up the merchandise from the local post office.
She also know how Paypal works .
When I asked her to sign the insurance claim form, she signed it as 'eeeee',how many Russian have names as 'eeeee'?
I will call USPS tomorrow and ask them what is going on,have they heard from Moscow post office, did she sign for the package, can they send us a copy of her receipt?

I was also invited to join the Global Shipping Program (GSP). I joined a few weeks ago.

Since I now only sell Charity Seal Literature and Stamp Albums on eBay, all my items qualify for GSP.

So far I haven't sold any items through the program.

Here is information regarding Seller Protection -

How sellers are protected

"Although you're responsible for getting the package safely to the US shipping center, you won't be charged if the item is damaged or lost during international shipping. You're also covered by PayPal Seller Protection, so you get the same protection for your international sales that you get domestically."

I added it to about 2/3 of my listings, but I can't figure out how to remove International Shipping all together with the exception of items being shipped via Global Shipping Program.

Do I have to go through item by item or can I do this in bulk?

I think you can do this in bulk.

For those with GSP, simply change you international options to only ship to those countries on the GSP list.

Eligible countries

"You can use the Global Shipping Program to sell to buyers in the following countries:

Australia
Bulgaria
Canada
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
Greece
Hungary
Latvia
Lithuania
Malta
Portugal
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
United Kingdom"

Or, select from the countries on the list, and limit your shipping to those countries.

As to the remaining 1/3 which you choose not to ship to, remove the international shipping option.

I checked all of the countries on the GSP list to allow shipping, however I see some of my items that are in categories not allowed still on my shipping list to those countries.

I only want to use the Global Shipping Program for ALL International Shipping, not just for the items they approve. If it doesn't qualify, I don't want to ship it.

I have to figure this out to prevent the headaches of International.

Then you have to go into country list and uncheck all the countries which are not covered by Global shipping which wiil be 95% of the countries on this planet/

Shag,
Have you figured out if it is cheaper to ship Global shipping program?
Some Ebay sellers would go to a local mail drop off service which offer DSL and the local guy will offer a discount, you get the tracking and signature confirmation.

Go to this item on eBay, it is one of mine which is set for GSP. Maybe this will help -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Ace-Christmas-Seal-Album-Pages-Blank-/251197091286?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a7c836dd6

I would be paid the cost of shipping to the GSP Center, from the total shipping the GSP received.

All my items are antiques, prints, porcelain, jewelry & collectibles to foreign countries like UK and Australia.
This program sounds like a lot of work, also if it is not delivered,we will eat the neg,not Ebay or Pitney bowles or the third party employed by Pitney Bowles.

Lost is correct Bill. I did go to your listing and when I choose ANY country from the list including Rwanda or Venezuela, your listing does provide me quotes for those and does not show that you do not ship to them.

This is the same issue I am experiencing. I do not know how the GSP functions within our listings. Does it provide this service automatically for all of our shipments to the designated countries, or is this up to the buyer to use this service?

I have many questions that I haven't been able to find solid answers.

I'm not sure what you guys are looking at -

A non GSP Country has all the available rates for shipping to that country displayed.

A GSP Country has only one rate displayed along with the custom fees that are due on the item.

The single quoted SHIPPING COST + the CUSTOM FEES + the cost of the item must be paid by the buyer at the time of purchase.

My only responsibility is to ship the item to the GSP Center. After that the GSP Center and eBay are responsible for shipping the item to the buyer and ensuring that the item arrives. If the item is lost between the GSP Center and the buyer, eBay assumes the responsibility and cost of refund or replacement. If the item is lost on the way to the GSP Center, I assume the loss.

Hi Bill. A few questions...

1) Are you shipping worldwide? If not, your listing shows you are.

2) Is it up to the buyer to decide if they will use GSP or is this automatically done, meaning that once you as a seller have signed up, it is set in stone and that is the only way you ship?

But you get the neg if it is lost or damaged between GSP shipping center and final destination.
