I'm sure many of you have Ipads or other tablets. I just starting to look and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
I would like to use it to do listings either with Vendio or directly with ebay and of course for research.
TIA

Hello,

Tablets are only going to get better and better in the coming year. Right now most all of them run mobile browsers, which aren't very good at doing many of the web based tasks (like use HTML editors in the description field) that you would do when creating and managing listings.

For what you want to use it for, id lean more towards a netbook - or wait about a year for when the next batch of tablets come out, as they will start running regular non-mobile OS's and not be limited to mobile specific browsers and OS's.

As close as they are to making tablets fully fledged computers - id wait until they do exactly that or just get a small computer (netbook) so you don't suffer any limitations.

Regards,
Chris

I'm sure that is good advise but I can't really wait as I will be using part of my husbands retirement rewards and we only have 60 days to redeem the points.
They have a good selection of tablets but
they have some netbooks as well - so I'll check that out. I just can't see carrying that into a thrift store and doing research.
I already have a laptop and a smart phone.

Chris - does Vendio work with an ipad? I've tried listing with my phone using eBay mobile app and it isn't great (ie unable to choose store categories) aside from not being able to use HTML. I could see listing via vendio if we can access it. I have a netbook and was also thinking about getting an iPad.

Hello,

If I was going to buy a tablet right now with the goal of using it on Vendio to create and manage listings (something we don't officially support) - id get something that ran Android.

I used to own a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet and absolutely loved it. The Android (not apple) mobile browsers seem to be able to support a LOT more functions on these web based applications. Plus it was a lot cheaper and allowed for a lot more customizing, much like Linux Vs OSX operating systems.

Don't get my wrong, iPad's are nice and if someone was giving me one - id use it all the time, but as a tech guy who likes to be able to do what I want the way I want - I prefer Android devices at the moment (though I am excited for what will surely become of the next MSFT tablet, full on operating systems so there is no difference other than having touch screen functions.)

Just my opinion of course. The official Vendio line is that we haven't optimized the site specific to work on mobile browsers, so there may be issues with using it this way.

Regards,
Chris

Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet is one of my options.
I have an employee that does many of my listing. Would it work OK just to view, edit and then launch the listings?
I have used my phone to list and don't really have a problem other than the tiny key pad. I take my photo and upload directly to ebay. Then I save it and go to my laptop to do the full listing. It is a Android phone.

Chris - do you know anything about Samsung Galaxy Note 16GB or 32GB? I have both as an option as well.

Last year I was away when eBay had some auction FLDs so I used Vendio>postsale>unsold to relist hundreds of listings on my Android phone. It took some scrolling but I got it done! My netbook requires a lot of scrolling too actually.

I guess if there is a will, there is a way. I just tried creating a listing on my phone and found my browser doesn't support the HTML version of the lister but I have most of the description written so I just have to edit a word here and there and it works fine. I didn't try to upload images though so not sure about that part. I guess I will hold off on the tablet for a bit. Is Vendio thinking about getting optimized for mobile?

I have an IPAD & I love it for games, surfing the web, emails, and other apps. I never use it for Ebay except to check on listings. I do not see how it would easily take & edit pictures, etc.

neglus - did you get your ebay app from your phone or from ebay? I think there is a difference. I sent my app to my phone from ebay - I'm pretty sure mine does support HTML. But now that you mention it I don't recall anything about the store categories.

The photo part is good as well. You can resize etc as you list. When all the photos are loaded you can change the arrangement by dragging and dropping. The negative is that you can't zoom on the photo but it will enlarge.

Fom the comments it appears the IPad or netbook would slow your employee down, who I suspect has metgod that allows to zip out listings quickly,

I love my iPad. I work on my listings on eBay, BidStart, and eBid, plus PayPal, with it.

Since I haven't had any classes about using it, I have to learn how to handle images. Otherwise, I can revise the listing and relaunch closed listings without a problem.

There is a 3rd party keyboard available if needed. Plus, I recently read that new orders will be delivered with 128 GB, instead of 64 GB, at no extra charge.

I also use my iPad for all email, even my business email, news, messages, music, radio, movies, and whatever else.

I can't think of any one time, I could not use it, as my PC. I'm sure there are things that can't be done on an iPad, however, I haven't discovered any.

My opinion - the iPad is the best.

alldings - this is for me not my employee.
She sets the listing up in Vendio and I review, adjust and launch them.

Bill - do you have an Ebay app. If you can list from a phone - I can't see why you couldn't from a tablet.

Chris - Never mind about the Galaxy Note - doesn't sound like what I'm looking for.

Bill - I recently bought an iPad to go with my 27" iMac. I love using both, but haven't dove into the other thing we discussed previously. Any attempts on your end?

As for any tablet including iPad or Samsung, the biggest limitation I have with them is being able to view only 1 window - just like a smart phone.

I recently upgraded to a 27" iMac so that I can have 4 windows open on one screen and not feel too cramped. When doing shipping, I will have Fed Ex and eBay open. When listing products I will have a window for eBay for research, a window for Aperture (my photo application), and my Garage Sale application open to create my listings. With the large screen, it makes it easy. With a tablet, impossible.

I was one the road for 3 days this week and 10 starting next week. I will only have an iPad with me, along with my Apple wireless keyboard for easier typing, so I will report back then about my experience. So far, I have been able to do most everything I did with my macbook, except for multiple windows.

if you do a lot typing, I highly recommend getting a portable keyboard, however you really have to consider the comfort level of some of the portable options.

I bought the logitech wireless solar powered keyboard for my iMac instead of using the Mac wireless that came with my computer because it doesn't have the number keypad on the side. The logitech has the numbers key pad on the end, and it is solar powered so no more batteries for my primary keyboard. The layout is exactly the same as the Mac.

I have taken the Mac keyboard and now use it for my iPad at my warehouse and take it on the road instead of using the screen keyboard.

If you decide to purchase a keyboard, or a cover with a keyboard, I highly suggest considering the size limitations. There are many keyboards built into cases that are too tiny for me to use... and very expensive. The keys are way too cramped.

I bought a Moko case on Amazon because it was the most versatile at providing readable angles on a table top and was inexpensive ($20) and came in a bunch of colors. Then I use my full size apple keyboard.
