No 1st and I would assume, no parcel post or 3rd class mail on Sat starting perhaps in Aug. Priority mail will still be delivered on Sat. This is still being discussed and has to be approved by Congress so it could take 8-9 years while the PO looses 15 million a day.

The Postman still might have to walk the entire route on Saturdays for packages, not sure how that is going to save much, maybe in the sorting process. They won't have to sort the stuff they aren't going to deliver.

34 millions dollars a day is what USPS is losing, thats what I heard.
not every household get priority mail on Saturday, they could just send one mailman for several routes .

Heard on news that package delivery is profitable for the PO ( wish they would deliver them quicker & safer).
"Regular" mail loses money. Would need to charge over a dollar to break even on regular mail. According to this report.
Also saw a cute piece on CBS this morning about a mail clerk in State College (Penn State campus) who was so nice, pleasant & friendly that people flocked to see him & dedicated their awards to him. Nice.
My mail clerks are no so pleasant ( most of them).

I always go to a very small Post Office in Niwot, Colorado. The staff are wonderful, always helpful, greet you with a smile and after you have been in a few times, they greet you by name. It is actually a pleasure to stop at this post office, exchange some pleasant conversation and go on your way with a smile on your face.

The thing with the postal service is anyone who works there knows what the issue is on how to save money. Our local postal office has 6-7 managers. How many does 1 post office need? One of the carriers was moved to am managers position because they couldn't hack working as a carrier or @ the station. So what do they do? Of course make him/her manager. Its just another red tape organization which does not want to make the necessary moves to keep itself solvent. When the rest of us have to step up our games they just ask for more money.

I do not mind higher fees if I get good service. Lately service has been terrible. 3 weeks from NJ to CA, 7 weeks to Germany, broken items, items not tracked properly, etc.
We are well known at our local PO and there are some very nice competent people there, but there are also some clerks that give the PO a bad name.
I had a delivery problem & when I attempted to explain it to a clerk, not so that he could solve it, but so that he could get me someone who could, he cut me off in mid stream & said, "I don't make enough to handle this!!" I bet he makes a decent wage & all I wanted was for him to get me a supervisor so I could have someone look into the matter. He did & the issue was eventually resolved. I am not sure through any intervention on the supervisor's part or someone just decided to finally deliver the package.
Another day when I was just shipping one package, there were no clerks at the windows. Clerks wandered back & forth but no one came to help the customers (I was first in line when this started, just one person behind me). Eventually, after 5 minutes, I am
not exaggerating, one clerk cane to wait on customers. By now there were 5 people in line. I had a question that she had to check in the back. When I left, there was still only 1 clerk helping customers & at least 12 people in line!! Not good!!
