Just want to share something that happened last week. Not a big deal, but something to consider.
Had an item listed for $130 BIN. Buyer had made a series of 3 offers to end up purchasing for $100. Then they backed out of the purchase after the 3rd day of no payment. I cancelled the transaction and immediately relisted it. I also blocked the buyer from future purchases.
Within an hour of relisting I get an offer from another ID for $75. Ironically, and stupidly, it reads, "I noticed you relisted this item after the other buyer didn't purchase it for $100. This is the best I can do."
Hmmm... how likely is it that this is the same buyer are previous with a different ID??? Now that Make An Offer prices are private, how did they know we previously sold it for $100???
Blocked 2nd ID and raised the price by $20 including my auto reject price. I suspect it was the same person or a friend of the person, but I am not going to play games.

Yeah the buyer is playing games. It had to be the same buyer due to the fact that you can't see the best offer price anymore.
I think you should have let them know that you are wise to them.

I didn't because they could still leave feedback on the initial transaction. I just ignored them as a $75 offer on a $130 item is ridiculous to begin with.

people do use different ID to make offer, since one ID can only make 3 offers,so they switch to another one and make another 3 offers,so on and so forth.

exactly... but once you agree to purchase it for a price, then you should be buying it for that price... not making offers until a seller accepts it, then cancel it and try to get it for less.

sometimes when the buyer feels the seller is too quick to come down in price,he feels may be he is being too generous,so he has a buyer remorse moment, for lack of a better term.
But just stick to your price, sooner or later it will sell.

What planet do these people come from that they think a seller would sell a 130 buck item for 75? At a 100 they were getting a deal. I guess the plan would be to make the bin price 260 so when they offered 130 they could brag to their friend (assuming they have one) how they put the shaft to an eBay seller.

You would be surprised plenty of sellers price the items too high and then find out no one will pay them their asking price,eg a set of silver cordial cups come down from 675 to 365 and still no buyer.

There biggest problem with Make An Offer is on the Sellers side. I remember stumbling across an artist that sold his/her own abstract paintings.
He'd have $1 million dollars as the Buy It Now price, but would take offers of $250-500. This was when you could see the offer price. Now, this new system where you can't see the sold price may benefit him even more.
We like to take offers from 10-20%... but we put our lowest acceptable price between 30-40% below our asking price. This is done for a few reasons.
1) Occasionally we have a local buyer. We offer free shipping, but will discount our shipping cost if they are picking up.
2) International buyers pay for shipping, so we can take a bit more off on those items.
3) Shipping to Washington and California is much cheaper than to New York or Florida. We tend to take lower offers on closer shipments.
4) If sales are slow, we will take a lower offer to keep some cash flow moving, but still apply the same scrutiny from the others noted above.
I just had an $800 offer on a pair of chairs we are asking $1650. I've had $2 offers on items that sell for $500. Some buyers are simply plain stupid.

...
The reason this happens (as it does in real world), is that there is no cost to the "buyer" for asking.

They are not stupid, while browsing your items, they may as well make an offer, they dont intend you to accept it.
If you do,then they will cancel and come back and make a lower bid.

If I understand this there people who place offers on things they do not plan on buying. If they win they cancel do I have this correct? The purpose of this would be...

You can see how much a 'Best Offer' item sold for very easily.
Log into ebay.ca (Canada) and search and check out Offers to your heart's content.
I don't feel that any Offer is stupid. Buyers are no different on eBay than they are buying a House, a car, or at an Antique Show.
You always have your options...Accept, Counter, Reject or ignore...that's a lot of options!

Thank you so much Otteropp!!!
I hope this continues... but this is a major help. I did do a search for an item I found at a thrift store yesterday for $30.
I found one on eBay, but it was sold with MAO. I just entered the item number on the eBay.ca website and now found how much it sold for.... $1000 plus shipping.
That is the best thing I have learned over the last month!
FYI... I didn't have to log in to find the item once I had the item number from the US eBay site.

Glad it helped.
Very often when something is changed on the .com site they actually listen to us in Canada and it doesn't get changed....at least for a while until they think we have forgotten about it and then it gets changed! Ha-Ha!
Seriously though they do recognise some of the challenges we have in Canada for example with a lot of Canada Post categories not being able to be tracked like yours are. We may have a larger Country but we have a much smaller population so most of us sell on the .com site. If we restricted sales to just Canada then I think we would all starve! This may be why we are also more inclined to sell to anywhere in the World and do so with very few problems.
Having said that I have actually blocked two Countries in the past month.
I have always had a good number of Sales to Germany with no problems but all of a sudden I had a man who bought four items and in spite of reminders from me and eBay...he didn't pay. I reported as Unpaid items and he paid within an hour. Then he left me FOUR 1's on my Communications DSR!!
Two days later I had a woman in Berlin file an INR for a little item. The timing was such that if she had not received it then it could conceivably be lost. I wasn't about to argue over $6.00 so I refunded in full.
I decided to give Germany a rest for a while.
Then I read the articles about Russia's terrible backlog of parcels and they were pleading with the rest of the World to please not ship anything there for a while! We have had several successful sales to Russia recently but I blocked them too.
I must get back to cleaning my house as my big Sister arrives from England tomorrow for a two week visit. She is 85 years old and healthier than most of us! She can also spot a speck of dust at 300 yards!

Is it Hoover or Roosevelt or Truman who said-HOUSE GUESTS AND HOUSE GARBAGE,THEY ALL STINK AFTER A FEW DAYS!
I think it is Truman who said that!
Friends and acquaintances should be referred to a motel or hotel or hostel, but you cant do that with relatives.
They are often a bunch of ungrateful ****,they sat there drinking your coffee, watch you mope around the house flipping pancake and scrambling eggs and expect to be entertained.
Afterwards they will tell the rest of the family what a lousy housekeeper you are!
Never let anyone in your house,I have a Russian neighbor across the street, they have a dog, then 2 dogs and a ferret, their neighbors will speak in horror-have you seen their house, they must not have houses in Russia!

..But I love her anyway!
She arrived yesterday and is really quite amazing for 85. She had been up for 47 hours as she didn't feel it was worth going to bed the night before she left because she had to get up early.
She sat and had dinner we chatted for a while and she finally had a glass of Scotch with my DH and went to bed at 10pm.
She was up and busy at 6.30 this morning!
So far...no 'dust alerts'.
I am almost 69 now and hope I can be as active and have the mind she does when (if) I reach 85. Quite an inspiration.
I have had other relatives and friends stay and yep...3 days and they do remind one of rotten fish!

I noticed that too. It has actually been a long while that we were able to get that info. When ebay.com started to hide it was quite a while ago and it has always remained available on .ca until this past week.
Maybe they were 'eavesdropping' on our conversation and decided they were making it too easy for us so they had better fix it!
Sister went back to England on Friday after a wonderful 2 weeks...she has mellowed as far as dust goes and didn't alert me to any spots I may have missed.
I miss her already..
