I just got a MC999 eBay Listing Removal notice.

The item was a small 9" salesman sample of a Lane Cedar Chest. Most people use it as a jewelry box or to store other small goodies.

The original full size cedar chests were recalled way back when because kids would hide in them and then suffocate.

Obviously, unless the child is the size of an action figure, this isn't going to happen in a 9".

Geez.

Why was it removed?

ebay referred me to the recall on the full size chest. obviously this is not the full size chest. these were salesman samples of chests. they often have the furniture store name branded into the wood on the inside lid.

i can just remove the word "chest" from it and relist. ironically the piece has been on ebay for about 2 months.

also the recall involved removing the locking mechanism. we see about half of the full size chests with the lock removed. so there was a resolution for the recall, though it never affected the item I am selling.

so, I removed any reference to "chest" and relisted it. They removed it again!

I called eBay, explained to them this is not the recalled item. They claimed it was reviewed by a person who made the decision. Seems like someone is a bit trigger happy.

They told me they would have to escalate it to appeal the decision. Unreal. My only concern was it affecting my compliance, but apparently it didn't.

I told them I would just sell it locally. Not worth the headache of sitting on the phone to have eBay review everything and appeal something like this.
