I got my IPad and really love it.
But why does say an app is free and then charge me a dollar? It's happened twice now

That has never happened to me. Sometimes there are 2 versions. One is free, the other has a fee, usually it is 99 cents, though, not $1.

never heard of that either. You have to authorize a charge to download something.

Are you by any chance downloading an App, then downloading "add-ons"? I know some apps are free for the basic application. Then if you want other features you have to pay for those.

Maybe it was 99 cents and I just rounded up.

It does ask me for my password but never says there is a charge until I get a notice from paypal of the charge.

It's not for add ons either. I did one for a calculator and another for Dish (anywhere) both said free but I still got charged. I wonder if using paypal has something to do with it.

OK I think I figured it out. It's an authorization charge but it doesn't really get charged to my account. Something like the bank does. It shows the charge, then a hold on it and then it expires - never really charging me account. I feel better now.

Never had that, but I do my downloads through ITunes, not PayPal.

My bills go directly thru ITunes, nothing through PayPal.

Welcome to the iPad family. We have two in our household.

I use mine for just about everything. I bought Garage Sale for iPad, but I am very disappointed with the app.

I have the same app as Bill, never used it.

I do use and love the Mac version of Garage Sale. Fantastic and cheap.

I don't use PP for my iTumes account, so that may be the reason why. I just use my CC. Much much safer than Paypal. I would rather deal with my CC company than Paypal for a disputed charge.

Shag - I used my paypal credit card but maybe I should change that.

I've used my IPad to list direct to ebay. I find the photos I take have great detail and it is much faster than using my camera.

One thing I can't figure out is how to turn on Siri. I'm not sure I even have it. I have an IPad 2 and even though the online manual show how to active it - I can't.

I downloaded another voice command app and it does not work at all.

Hold down the button and Siri should prompt. It should be defaulted to on, so it should just prompt it.

drjackk - she is referring to iTunes for payment. iTunes handles your library of music, movies, podcasts, and apps you download.

When I want to "hear" the music I listen to CDs. When I need background music at home I use my Apple TV and listen to music on my stereo streaming my library. When I'm on the go, nothing beats my iPod classic. I have a huge collection of music, and I haven't come close to filling it. It is nice to plug it into my car and have everything with me in something the size of a deck of cards. It holds 160GB, which I have used about half and have over a month of continuous music available. It is convenient, but you do lose some quality compared to cds.

We downloaded all our CDs to our Apple TV.

Yeah I don't think I can get Siri on my IPad.

I love using the voice command on my phone.
I swear there have been 2 or 3 times when we were out garage sailing and would see a sign but couldn't read the number just the street name.
I'd say the street name only without the house number and my phone would take us right to the HOUSE where the sale was and then tell us we had arrived. Now how does it do that???
