I got an email this morning:
Hello xxxx,
After reviewing your account, we've made the decision to reduce your monthly selling limits. You can now sell up to 130 items and up to $2,750.00 a month, whichever comes first. Each month your account is reviewed automatically, and if you are able to maintain a positive selling history, your limits may be increased. To check your sales and monthly selling limits, go to the "All Selling" section of My eBay.
Keep in mind that registering new accounts or selling with other existing accounts to avoid selling limits or other policy consequences is a violation of eBay polices.

HUH!! I have a store, am a Power Seller, Top Rated Seller, 100% + FB, no 1s or 2s.
I had already hit my "limit" due to the # of free promos lately, so i said, WT***.
Read all of the links provided, no discrepancies for standard practices, etc.
So, I called. They said wait time was 4 min. Someone got on the line 25 min later. he listened & could not figure out the problem, so said he would transfer to Accounts. 20 min later I spoke to some account person. She gave me bunch of blah, blah, blah. Then said she would review my account. She came back & knew what categories I mainly list in. Asked me if they were from my own collection or purchased. She asked my who my supplier was!! I balked at that. She gave me some convoluted answer why they should ask this.
She increased my item limit to 250. I have never had a limit before. She said they are reviewing everyone. I asked why they kept giving me a million free or 100,000 free. Again, blah, blah, blah.
I told her a friend of mine does not have a limit and has been doing this for a shorter period of time than I have. She said all accounts will be reviewed & limits imposed.

No,I have not received such email, but like Ebay said, they are reviewing every account,so?
But from what Ebay is saying, you cant go around this limit by opening new seller account or using existing seller account?
Does this limit apply to all your seller accounts????
But what rings the bell is Ebay asking you whether you are selling new or old and who is your supplier?
I have seen many sellers using the same drop shippers ,copying the pictures and description from the drop shipper site and list them on Ebay, you end up seeing many identical items, the only difference is the asking price and shipping.

It was strange. My daughter has limits on her account & understand that since she is fairly new.
I never had limits on my account. I certainly had more than 150 free listings that come with my store when they give away 1 million or 100,000 free listings (no where near those #s).

I got limited on designer perfume once because I listed about 15 mini bottle at once. All I did was call and they lift the limit.
I also got a 21 day hold on my paypal account once and no one could tell me why. It lasted for about a month and then they dropped it.
Their robots are at it again - I guess. Sorry merrie - bad time of year for this.

They did increase my limit, but I have never had a limit before and it is holiday time. She made no sense as to why the limit was imposed.I realize now she said that I mostly listed in collectibles & that is not true, but I did not challenge her on it since it really did not seem to be a reason for this new "ruling."
Oh well, sales are slow any way so no sense working so hard when a bunch of morons are in charge.

She is just a rep reviewing your account the first time,it is the robot which limits your selling and who knows how it is programmed,it could take into consideration how many times people view our products and do not buy or bid and how long does it take for us to sell certain items?
Xmas is coming so they want more of the highly saleable items to be viewed most and bought at the best price!
Ebay released earnings yesterday,it said this coming Xmas sales will not be as robust as last years.

That may be true, lost, but the rep did not give me any sensible reason for these limits being imposed nor did the links provided.
After a summer slump, my sales have picked up & I was gearing up for a good holiday season. This has taken the wind out of my "sales."

The rep does not know, nor does she have the time to research on specific account,if you call a few days later and ask ,they probably has better clues why.
There are just too many sellers on Ebay.
The number of sellers who claim internet sales is their only income or major source of income is growing.
This may be OT,but a guy on SSI disability used to buy and sell on Ebay until he cant pay his bills,he has pleaded too many times and Ebay finally suspended him.
He can buy on Ebay but not sell.
So he went to another site and sold what he bought on Ebay, then sales slow and he cant pay his bill, they shut him down and now he has no place to sell.
Hindsight is always 20/20,he should have put some of the sales proceeds aside to pay the vendor!

I don't always get 250 free, I get 150 free with my store. But with promos like the one right now, I used to be able to list 100,000 or even a million. I never did, but I could have if I wanted to, now I am limited to 250 no matter what the free promo is.
I never had a limit before. My brother in law does not have a store & he normally gets 50 free a month, but is given promos like the ones I described above & when he gets those, he has no limit even though he has only been on Ebay for a few years.

Called Ebay again to clarify why selling limits had been imposed. If I had broken any "rules" etc. This rep said that 99% of sellers have limits, they just don't know what they are since they are hidden, but if the seller gets close to them, they will notify them.
Not sure I believe that. She says the limits are for the sellers protection so they do not get in over their heads (HUH!!).
Still does not make a lot of sense, but this rep was nicer & did not ask weird questions.

As we get closer to Xmas,Ebay wants to make sure we do have the stock on hand,I recall some of the popular gadgets and toys and dolls, sellers are asked to present evidence that they either have the physical items in stock or they have placed an order with the factory/supplier.
If we said we have the items on hand, then copies of invoice and receipt are faxed to EBAY,if it is some hot toy which have not been delivered, then they want a copy of preorder confirmation.
Yeah,in a way it is for the seller protection,if he /she is selling a photo of the hot toy/doll/gadget for Xmas and then find out the factory runs out of stock, there will be many unhappy buyers filing chargeback and giving Ebay a bad name!

I also found out that my limit of 250 is items, not listings. So if one FP has 5 items, that counts as 5 of the 250.

I remember my sister Jane talking about selling limits imposed on her. It turns out that this really was because she did not link her PayPal account to a bank account to pay her eBay fees. EBay was worried that they wouldn't get paid their fees, I guess, even though she never was delinquent in paying. Are your accounts linked?

Lost, I have all of my stock in my possession. I never list a quantity more than 6 and usual they are singles or 2 or 3. I am not a bulk seller even though I keep getting emails from Ebay offering me bulk deals.
My payments are all on time, paid automatically thru a CC.
The rep said there was no issues with my account. I am a PS, TRS, 100% FB, no low #s etc.
Really, I usually do not need more than 250, except around the holidays.
But, why keep giving me thousands of free listing promos if I can't take advantage of them?
posted on October 30, 2013 11:02:20 AM new
The idiot who works in the marketing dept comes to work and unleash a free listing promotion email to all who qualify, and you must be in the list.
Unless they change the program to further define who qualifies ,then some of us will continue to receive such email.

Neglus, your sister does not have to link her paypal account to a bank account, some sellers pay with their credit card.
My credit card is actually the Paypal debit card, they just take from my paypal balance, and I get 1 1/2% rebate which helps.
Say my Ebay bill used to be $500,1 1/2% rebate is $7.50,enough for a Big Mac.

Well...that's a slap in the face!
In October I have received three 'Invites' to listing specials. They were all on my other ID that I rarely use except to buy, a lot less than I used to!
I would have liked one on this ID as I try to get back to the numbers I had listed before my vacation but no...
I am getting so disenchanted with eBay and would love to list elsewhere but can't decide where and please don't suggest Amazon. They sound worse than eBay and as I am in Canada it would be even more difficult.
Sorry, Merrie I sidetracked your issue. What will you do? Will you look for another venue?
posted on October 30, 2013 01:37:33 PM new
Otteropp: No, not a sidetrack, all of these issues are part of the same problem. So many rules, so many different promos that do not make sense, it is all part of the same problem. Ebay not listening, changing things that were not broken, etc, etc. We could all go on and on.
It is a shame there is no real alternative. I guess they know that and are holding us hostage.

I have selling limits imposed on me, and its due to low DSR's that my customers have given to me. Looks like it will loosen back up after the first of the year, but for now, I'm allowed 180 bucks spread over 15 items. Not worth selling, other then I want to keep putting good ratings on to slightly lessen the impact of the bad ones I received. At the beginning of last year, I was selling out of a catalog, and although I stated a 5 day shipping time which I always hit, I still had customers ding me.
