eBay has some new ideas...now they don't just want to be Amazon...they want to be Facebook too.

But then,do Ebay buyers really care about what the seller is up to?
I recall there is a seller who sells jewelry ,she said she started out as a small kid dumpster diving after Xmas and found goodies,so here she is ,selling dumpster dived goods on Ebay.
Another seller said she always adore jewelry and her father called her little princess,as if we really care!
She was suspended for shill bidding too many times !
There is also a woman who called herself the outdoor type and posted a picture of herself with a shot gun,she shipped her jewelry in worn torn plastic Walmart bags and eat plenty of negs.
I guess outdoor folks dont have time to shop often,so no fresh Walmart bags!

I'm not much of a facebook person but I do have an account and love to look at photos of friends and family.
I used a photo of myself and a VERY large red fish I caught off of our dock in Steinhatchee as my profile photo.
I notice a few months ago that this photo is now attached to most emails I send. I'm not really that happy about it and I don't know how it happened. The fish looks great but me - not so much. LOL

wgonzales - are you talking about the "collection" addition to the eBay bag of tricks? I think it is more like Pinterest than Facebook. I am just not sure how much buyers will use it and how they will even find me.

I quickly set up a few collections. There is now a link on each of our items under the BID button that says "add to collection". You just need to create a collection and add items to it. The problem is, I don't know how people are going to find my collections other than to go to what used to be "MY WORLD" (now My PRofile). Apparently the more followers you have, the more your collections will be shown in the "trending collections" section.

There is a new tab at the top of each ebay page that says "Explore Collections" and lets users see trending collections or search for items in collections. It is very image intense and I must say, some of the items in home & garden look irresistible when set up well.

If you feel like it, I would appreciate the "follow" - just let me know and I will follow you too!

Here is an example of a user who I think is using "collections" as eBay intended!

Yes, Neglus, it also the feel of the whole update as I was reading it with the collections and the new Store setups with cover shots and profile shots and making everything one does public or private. It may be more like pinterest, but I never "got" that site and really only have experience with FB.

I had never used the old "my world" page, but did take a look now and saw a few followers so, like you, I quickly set up a couple of so called collections, which are really just store categories with the same items. Just to see how it works.

Be happy to like you, or follow you or whatever the heck game ebay now wants us to play. LOL.

Personally, I would prefer eBay work at being a better eBay, than imitating other trending sites. And also let me focus on listing new items instead of setting up social networking pages. But I guess that is just way today's business world works.

Like Warren Buffet said ,eventually everything turns into a toaster,AKA a commodity.
Stream music, stream movie, chat, look up stock price, post pictures, discuss travel plan, too bad we cant masturbate or make love to our buyer?

Well said Susan but heck I may try it myself as well.
It can't make my sales any worse.

Neglus - I would follow you but I get the following error when I click your link:
HTTP Status 400 - Unable to determine shard

Here's something weird - if you look at perfectlydisheveled's FB she hasn't sold anything - also true of some of her followers???

Buyers can make their own collections and I think that we are either seeing collections from buyers or buying id's of sellers.

I wonder if some of those early trending collections are actually eBay employees or people they asked to make collections to test it.

I looked at more of the "Collections" since there is now a link at the top of each Ebay page. Those I looked at had NO FB and those selling clothes the pictures looked like models from a catalog.
