I have set everything up and will start offering some items on Etsy over the next few weeks. I am curious to see how it goes.

I know a vintage clothing dealer who told me he was suspended from eBay for having too low of DSRs on shipping time. Not sure how true it is, considering the source... but he did say he moved to Etsy and is doing as well there AND doesn't pay the extra fees eBay charges.

I plan to test the waters soon. Will let you know how it goes.

I have a friend that sells on Etsy and she said she does pretty good there.
It will be good to hear how it goes.

Etsy is growing, last count is 900,000 shops,I am sure the number has grown.
Etsy has a problem, you can only reach customer service by email, there is no phone support.
It is becoming more like Ebay every day with frauds and complaints and scams and deadbeat sellers who dont pay their bills and chargebacks from buyers and technical glitch.
You can sell vintage items and they do check to make sure your items are vintage, you can look up their definition of 'vintage' on their site.
And you can sell handmade items made by you or someone who works for you,you can find more details on their website.
You can accept personal check, money order, paypal and credit cards.
Credit cards thru Etsy, here is the problem,if there is a chargeback,Etsy gets hit first,if it is too late to withhold the fund from the seller Etsy account,it will have to reach into his bank account.
If there is insufficient fund in the bank account,it may have to eat the loss or try to recover via legal means?
Paypal used to do that, but changed its policy as it is too controversial.
neither Paypal nor Etsy is the merchant account provider which process your credit card transactions,so does it have the right to take money from your bank account?
Some of their latest rules is that buyer cannot leave feedback until the item is delivered !!Does it sound like Ebay, stay tuned !
As for your friend who sells vintage clothes and suspended by Ebay for low DSR in shipping, will he be shipping faster on Etsy?
I know a seller who was suspended by Ebay for slow in paying his bills,he went to Etsy and he is now suspended by Etsy for not paying his bills?

lost - the dealer I refer to is not a friend, he is someone I run into about once a month at one thrift store where he hangs out and buys clothing.

you are 100% correct about the online problems and I do question whether this person will get suspended if he is too lax on Etsy as well. With that said, I don't even know if his suspension story is true. He may have said that as a way to "legitimize" himself. He could have been suspended for something else, but was too embarrassed to say.

No matter the website or even brick & mortar, there are always going to be issues with bad sellers and buyers, there will be growing pains, and some people will simply get left behind.

My intention is to target 20 items we have on eBay right now and list those on Etsy to test the waters. I used another site specializing in mid-century modern to sell items a few years ago. I listed 5 items on their classified and sold 2 fairly quickly. It was more a national classified, so it required more interaction with the buyer. I prefer less email interaction to arrange a purchase. It just slows things down and is inconvenient. I want to see how Etsy goes.
