My postman just told me the post office has asked them to start work at 6 am so they dont have to work after dark.
A postman was robbed and killed in Boston last week, thats why they dont want anyone out working when it gets dark.
The motive of the killing is to get his packages!

Hate to say it, but that isn't going to do anything to curb crime. It is still dark in most of N. America at 6am. Early morning isn't going to deter anybody from committing crime.
We had someone break into our car at 6am a few weeks ago. Nothing in it for them to steal.
I don't see making such a time adjustment making much difference in safety. People rob banks in broad daylight. It is tragic, but an isolated incident.

They arrive at the post office at 6 am to pickup their packages and organise them, hopefully by the time they leave the post office ,it will be light outside.
I hate to point out,UPS and Fed Exp trucks carry packages not junk mail, they have more to worry.

I hadn't heard of a postal worker being killed (and I live near Boston). One was ambushed and shot, however.
It does not sound like the goal was stealing packages (and doesn't sound like a well-thought out crime, either).
