BOSTON –A United States Postal Service worker was shot in Dorchester Friday night in a robbery attempt, Boston Police said.

The postal worker was shot near the Ashmont MBTA station on Bailey Street near Dorchester Avenue before 7 p.m.

The worker was in the rear of his mail truck when the shooter tried to steal mail and packages, police said. The two then got into a scuffle, and the postal worker was shot in the wrist.

After the postal worker jumped from the truck, the shooter then attempted to steal the mail truck but crashed into a snowbank and ran, police said.

The postal worker was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

I know, but we were not sure if the postal worker was killed or badly injured,so now we know.
Our post office now asks postal carriers to start work early so they can quit when it gets dark, they now start work at 6:30 am.

Crime is going to happen at any time of the day. In Portland this morning:

High speed chase at 4:25am that ended in the vehicle crashing through a fence and telephone pole.

Bomb threat called in to local high school

Two convenience store robberies in Vancouver, WA early Saturday morning: 3:45 and 5:30am

My car was ransacked at 6am over a month ago.

My point... adjusting the time isn't going to change anything. If someone wants to rob a postal carrier they will do it in the morning when they least expect it. One incident shouldn't cause mass hysteria to change everything.

We have numerous breakins and they all happen during the day around 10:30 am,when everyone is either at work or in school,or most of us,not everyone!
Robberies also happen during the day.
But USPS trucks are easily recognised so if it happens during day in residential area, someone driving by would see it and report the incident, while after dark, most folks stay inside the house.
Anyway,it is a nice gesture by the post office !

Our vacation home was robbed in October. They stole over $20,000 worth of stuff.
Our place is out in a very rural area and it looks like they made many trips. Even loaded our boat up with my husbands tools and hardware to the point the tires went flat. That the only reason it was still here (the boat nothing special but it does have a brand motor on it).

One of the guys sold our generator & a pump to his nephew who was honest and when he found out the stuff was stolen - he turned his uncle in.

We ended up getting about a third of our stuff back. The thieves still aren't in jail but will be soon.

So there are good people out there and there are bad people - sometimes in the same family.

You mean the boat tires went flat?
Did they plan their great escape with all the loots in your husband's boat??
Robberies and burglaries are common these days, they hit both residential and commercial premises .
The profile of a burglar is usually a local guy not too far from your home,in the 20s and single, and spend average of 28 minutes, usually in master bedroom, the pros go after cash, watches, gold and silver.
These days they work in gang, kickin the backdoor or find a way to get you to open the front door.
Sometimes it could be a couple, one drives and the other break into your house and communicate with their cell phones.
They must do their homework before the breakin,as most of the times the owner is not home and they know which window to break.
My neighbor a single woman a few houses down on the same side of the street, someone kicked in backdoor while she was away.
She is a Remax real estate broker who moved her office to her home to save rent,I wonder passing your business cards out to anyone, everyone is a bad idea, although she uses her mail box number not her home address, but these days with internet, you can easily find out where one lives and who else lives with you and your phone number they can call to find out if you were home or anyone is home?
They also dont sell the loots to pawn shops as the police has connections, they ship them overseas.
A retired police chief said if you tell the police your travelling plan, they could be the ones who break into your home

Yeah the weight of all the stuff in the boat made one tire totally flat.
We're sure the plan was to come back and replace the tire and take the boat, motor and all the stuff in it.
These guys are in their mid 40's but one lives 1/4 mile down the road.
We had been staying here for a couple of weeks and in Jacksonville a couple of weeks. However we had some things come up and didn't get back here for over for a month. That give them plenty of time to come and go as they pleased.

About a year ago we wen to look at an Estate. The story is very close to the same.

The parent was placed into assisted living while the children lived out of state. Someone showed up with a moving truck and cleaned out most of the house before the family had the opportunity to deal with it.

The remaining pieces of furniture were actually of significant value, but the thieves didn't take it. Nobody knows if it was because they didn't have room or they thought it was worthless.

A Heywood Wakefield dining room set including tables and chairs, hutch, and buffet. Some nice vintage living room furniture was all that was left of value. Unfortunately, the son we met had higher expectations and we didn't buy anything. Neighbors claimed to have seen the moving van during the day, but never thought anything of it.

Well,I just talked to my neighbor and got the scoops-
she works from home unless she is showing houses for sale.
But recently she was injured and been living with her son nearby for 6 days.
During that period, some one rang the door bell around 3 am ,when no one answered, they /he went to the back of the house and kick in the back door, then they went to the garage and found out the garage is empty as she was away.
Then they open the garage door and backin their pick up truck and closed the garage.
they loaded the truck with her 46" Tv set,a MSFT tablet,a PC,some jewelery and some silver collectibles and drove away.
The police came and recognised the MO and went to the neigborhood pawnshop and found the MSFT tablet?
now this guy is in jail, for multiple entries and breakin in this area.
He cant be alone, there must be someone helping with the 46" TV set .
How do they know she was away for 6 days and why pawn the tablet at neighborhood pawnshop just round the corner????????????
She has to replace the back door and the frame,it would be around $700 dollars and insurance will pay after deductible.
And the tablet which she paid 1600 for ,insurance co has depreciated to $1k and all the real estate data she has downloaded cannot be recovered.

Interesting story, but how do they know someone rang the doorbell at 3am if nobody was at home?

The police knows who did it and so they told her it is the likely scenario.
But how do they close the garage door after they took off with the loots?
Unless they go back inside the house and close the garage door and leave via the front door?
So the survey is right,in her case a neighborhood young male ,pawn shop and electronic goods and some silver and jewelry.
But how stupid to go to a neighborhood pawn ship just outside our subdivision?
Police has connection with pawnshops.
There are many breakins in our area, someone must be tipping the burglars else how do they know she is not home and they come in a pick up truck and expect to park it in her garage?
