I don't know what Novel begins with;

"We were in study hall when the headmaster walked in, followed by a new boy not wearing a school uniform, and by a janitor carrying a large desk."

About the janitor carrying a large desk. He must not have been with a union or there would have been two janitors carrying the desk...

Now about the new boy. If he is not wearing a school uniform, what was he wearing?

If this was a study hall, did the new kid have any books to study? If he didn't why not? If he did what were the books?

Also how old is the new boy.

While I'm at it, Who is being quoted? Why does this person care?

This sounds like a sgtmike mystery to me. Better put on a pot of coffee.

Barry, you'd never guess the book by those lines. And it's hard to imagine a work less likely to interest sgtmike, although for all I know a well-read copy is sitting on his shelves right next to his collection of Jane's hardware guides.

Another clue: arsenic.

You are absolutely right! I was playing a twist with names because so many people pronounce Poirot more like pareau. It was a joke.

Because of the wine it was more funny. Si?

Ah - Pastorleon, I am glad it was a play on words! Many people have tied the two together so I though perhaps I was completly wrong. [and that would be totally unacceptable!]

Wine certainly does help the little grey cells! I believe I shall revisit the other thread for a refill!
