Bush impatient with Congress on education bill

"This will mark the first time in recent years that a Republican House will have to engage in a high-level negotiating session with a Democratic Senate.

Yeah. Now that they have to compromise, Bush is applying pressure to Congress.

Last week, Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, slammed Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota, for the slow progress on the education package.

"By failing to act on President Bush's bipartisan education initiative, the Senate Democrat majority is holding up the most sweeping reform to our nation's educational system in decades," Lott said.

Of course, the problem is not the Republicans! Oh, no! It's those DEMOCRATS holding up the "reform". But what is really holding it up is the FUNDING that Bush refused to do for all of those so-called "reforms". What good does it do to put the onus of new rules and laws on public schools to "Perform or Die!" when there's no funding for those rules? This is how Republican politicians fulfill their promises to their voters. Funny thing, those voters love it and keep going back for more!

"Leaving no child behind" was never a Bush priority. He just used that ruse to advance his political agenda which was providing unjust tax cuts to the rich and increased defense spending.

Now, Bush trots out his Education Plan with no money, expecting states to pay for the plan which according to educators will cost billions. Take a look at his track record in Texas. There, he produced a spectacular failure in education leaving only 31 percent of the students able to pass the test.

And Trent Lott, who is slaming the Democrats for slow progress, represents the state of Mississippi which has the most miserable education system in the country.

Leave no child behind? What a crock.

If you'll note, the state of Mississippi comes in dead last in almost category you can think of wehen it comes to prosperity, education, health care, justice, etc. It's a Republican Dream embodied by Senator Trent Lott.
