I went and had my hearing aids reprogramed today - new ones /$6300. and went to a few sales. I was over in Macolm county and an old fellow had a big sale with a air hockey table for $50.00
A couple nice kids about 13 or 14 came along on mountain type bikes and looked at the stuff and the girl was enthused about the table but had no money the boy had the money but he said it takes me too long to make $50 and after a couple weeks we'll be tired of it and be trying to sell it.
What was interesting was he was pressing her to commit to "Go with me for the rest of the summer."
Is it no longer the fashion to say go steady? Because that's what he seemed to be saying.
She was saying they had been together every day this week anyway so what's the difference?
He said everyday my Mom goes off to work and I am alone and I don't want to have to call every day and ask if we can do something - I just want to know we are going to do something unless you tell me you will be gone. He said - "I will come make you breakfast every morning."
Kind of choked me up to hear how lonely the kid sounded and apparently the girl is on her own all day also because he said - just like you.
She agreed and said he could bring his swim trunks over and keep them there and said -"But when we go back to school if I want to go out with somebody else I don't want to hear anything about it OK?" he agreed ", and if we go back home from riding or whatever and you are a stinker like you get I want you to take a shower OK? Sure no problem he said.
Off they went on their bikes happy as can be.

I have never heard such a forth right negotiation between kids - and I sure never offered to cook breakfast for my girl friends or had them tell me to go shower.
Things seem a little different than when I dated 40 years ago.

Edited to add - after seeing those two kids I came home jsut in time to see a Child Protective Services lady in our condo looking for our neighbors unit.
The police have been out almost every other day because the 14 year old is left home all day alone and has anywhere from one to as many as six friends over each day and the seem to believe in primal scream therapy, and slamming doors. She has even called the police herself when her friends (girls) got into a fist fight. They have threatened others at the pool and forget their keys so they bust out the screens to climb in. So sad..

Is one of the first two kids the same as the one CPS is looking for? I hope not.

I was reading the first story, thinking \"Ah, why isn\'t dating that easy now?\" Too bad we grow up and make things all complicated..

The two over in Macolm were a lot different than my neighbor. They were real clean cut - no studs or weird clothing. The kid here and her friends look look something from a cheap horror flick.

After krs - they boosted the mid frequencies a bit and it really helps you snoop. The old boy at the sale could hear them also though because he rolled his eyes after they rode off and said - "Hell I'd keep him around for the summer if I'd known he could cook."
