The groom had won a trip to the Titanic aboard a mini-sub.

Isn't it sort of like dancing on people's graves?

Yes, James.
Dancing on (1500) graves is exactly what it is, in my opinion.
I think it’s a romantic story.
People were/are so hung up on that stupid Cameron movie.
There was nothing romantic about the sinking of the Titantic and there is nothing romantic about the marriage that is to take place on it, at an obscene cost of $560,000!!!

Sounds ghoulish and in very bad taste.

One of the fellows I worked with got married at a big bash, the wedding and reception came with a bill over $50,000.00. I don't know how much the divorce bill was 18 months later.
He wasn't the brightest fellow I'd ever worked with.

It amazes me how much people spend on weddings and all of the hype that go with them. (I am commenting on what uaru said). Insane! And to think that my marriage has survived these years with a cheap wedding (but it was nice/perfect to me) and super cheap rings. We bought our rings in a pawn shop. Husband threatens to replace mine every few years but I won't let him. I love it-- it is simple and nice and we didn't go into debt buying it.
As far as getting married on the titanic-- I think it is in very poor taste. And honestly I think it is kind of bizarre to want to do something like that.
Sorry I went off topic a bit.

In some other countries the custom is to spend a lot. In Japan the couple sometimes have about 5 years of debt to carry to pay off the wedding. Seems silly to me, but this is the country where people carry hole in one insurance - because the social obligations of hitting a hole in one on the golf course will ruin you also.

I guess the hype and supposed "romantic" notions of the Titanic made that couple want to say their vows over it, as it lays there rotting deep in the ocean. What people tend to forget that nothing is romantic about people dying and watching those they loved, sink with the ship. That couple that got married there didnt think of that. All they thought of was the movie, from Hollywood. Whats next? A wedding at a concentration camp?

For Pete's sake, they're getting married, not throwing a bacchinale or sacrificing to Satan.
