I came home from vacation a few days ago with the promise to myself (and my husband)that I WILL NOT buy more junk until I've sold some of what I have. It's 3 hours until the auction that I attend every Saturday night and I'm weakening......

I tell myself that I'm just going to visit(Uh-huh) some of the friends I have made there in the last couple of years. BUT you all know what's going to happen..."Well I can't let that go, I know that's worth blah, blah."

I am totally pathetic! We are remodeling the house my husband grew up in (hoping to move in next spring) and we just spent an hour revising house plans to make an EBAY room in the old wash house. Must go now, I have to shower before the auction tonight!

Is there a support group for this?!

Rhonda

P.S. - A friend and fellow ebayer/junk hunter just called and told me about a new thrift shop she found......HELP!

Will the end of summer help?

We rent a large temperature controlled room at a storage facility. I was worried about the expense but every month the dumpster diving has yielded more than the rent.

Rhonda,

I know exactly what you are talking about. When I came home today with a pile of books, my husband said..."looks like I see more coming in than I see going out!"... As I unloaded my books, I called him a vapid yahoo and then I hid the dictionalry. LoL!

If he bothers me too much, I will buy the whole dam bookstore. In the neighborhood we have Borders and Barns & Noble super stores and on the internet the options are unlimited! Now, I am seriously considering lining the walls of every room with shelves.

Do you think that I have a problem? ROTFLOL!!!

Helen (had to answer the phone before I could finish) One of my friends lives in a small 45 room manse near the ocean. Their hallways are long and extra wide, she has bookshelves going from floor to ceiling for over 40 feet and that's only one area...the library is filled with books (as one might expect) she has a small room upstairs just dedicated to books on shelves and tables and then for her current reading she has bookcases in the boudoir. How she ever finds time to do anything else amazes me!

Oh Wow, That sounds like a dream to me!!!

I just know that it's some kind of mental derangement but it's fun. So many books and so little time...

Every fall we haul everthing to an auction and start over. Otherwise we have a mess like you are refering to. auctions in iowa in the winter do real swell for us because things are harder to pick up.

WE take our auction money and,of course, go out and buy more junk. I Keep about 5,000 or so records in the celler because thats what i sell on ebay in the winter. dishes and other crap that we accumulate goes to the auction.

I confess.....I am a bad, bad girl. I insulted my son by filling his room with "stuff" within hrs. of his move to college.
My garage doesn't know it's a garage cause it has never seen a car.
storage space is so full I may have to get another and yes, I have even loaded up my office at my real job with my treasures.

And I have stooped so low that I pretend wait until hubby goes to work or sleep and then sneak most of my goodies out of the car.

I couldn't get through everything I have to sell on ebay in the next 2 years......and still I hit the sales every weekend.

I really do need help

I just returned from the auction and I was a veeeeerrrrrryyy bad girl! But it was hot and humid, people left early and things were going CHEAP! I got a vintage red wool Boy Scout jacket with pins and badge for 50 cents - could any ebay seller with brains pass that up I ASK?

Cariad - I'm happy to know I am not the only one who sneaks things in after my husband goes to bed!

Helen - I am also an avid reader and have hundreds of books of my own. My husband recently asked me why I didn't sell some of MY books. My response wasn't very nice (he most definitely didn't need a dictionary) - but I LOVE "vapid yahoo" and will remember it in the future.

Good night all and happy hunting!
Rhonda

I, too, am guilty as charged. I have only been to one garage sale in the last 4 weeks - I really am trying to quit. I think I should get up early next week and go .....
