In another thread, Xifene mentioned, in passing, a news story about a pizza guy who added a religious tract to his delivery to a quilting group that was meeting at the Catholic church. Later that evening I was chatting with a friend who told me the same story, but added the part I should immediately have realized on first hearing it from Xifene... It was a Chick tract.
Woo! I love Jack Chick! Probably the best hours I ever spent online came several years ago when my friend first introduced me to Chick tracts and comics via an excellent website that's, sadly, no longer online.
But, never fear, you can get it straight from the horse's... uh... mouth at http://www.chick.com
Yaaaaahhhh!
Any other Chick fans here?

I used to work in the library at the university in my hometown. We'd find these tract in between books on the shelves all the time. I always read them with a sort of mix of horror and wonder; but then, I'd also rather had my fill of folks letting me know that my Catholocism meant I was little better than Satan spawn, ya know?

No offense taken, Spazmodeus.
"Haw Haw," or, if they're really jollied up, "Haw Haw Haw!" is how the evil laugh in Chick tracts. So, if you ever hear anyone going "Haw Haw!" you'll know, they're one of Satan's helpers!
Don't feel bad, Xifene, you're in good company. Elvis, according to Jack Chick, was also a tool of Satan.

"Was that 'cause he was in all those velvet paintings?"
That might have been enough, but there was more. It's because, in the '50's and '60's, Satan gradually introduced his beat into some of the crooners. Then, he gave us, according to Jack Chick, Elvis and the Beatles, and that led to Flower Children.
But if you thought you were safe because you don't listen to rock, think again! After he did that, he moved into classical, country, soul and Christian music. I guess that only leaves Enya, Sousa marches, and some music with howling wolves in it, and it's probably only a matter of time before he gets into those too.

It is sad that some folks have to resort to religious bigotry in order to maintain a web site. Sadder still are those who innocently wander on there and believe it all.

Jack Chick predated the web by a long time. My friend, who's in his mid 30's and grew up in the Midwest, remembers getting Chick tracts from his aunt when he was in the 4th grade.

I was merely being polite, Donny. Jack Chick evidently likes to collect misinformation and bigorty and mask it as real information. I've heard this same religious bigotry and outright fraudulant information for decades -- and it wasn't Jack Chick's work alone, I'm afraid. Like xifene, I too have been on the receiving end of these bigoted hate attacks because I am a Freemason. I have seen many parents being despised by ther own adult children who have been "saved" and then programmed with these lies and hate-filled notions. It is the work of the Devil that we teach others to Hate in God's name.

Yes, it's a strange world.
Reading Chick tracts, it's easy to see how some people can believe that not only other religious beliefs, but religious tolerance itself, are plots to snare the unwary.
But, then, someone goes - "HAW HAW HAW!" and I gotta love it.

If you want to see the outcome when people like this gain real power look at what the Taliban are doing in Afganistan.

Yup. They just expelled a couple of American AID workers from there on charges that they were attempting to convert people to Christianity -- a Capital Offence punishable by death!
If any religious belief can be so easily dismissed by a person and that religion is in such jeopardy becuase followers are so easily converted away from it to something else ... what does that tell you?
