Also,
There are reports that several thousand have evacuated their families to Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan to fight. That is--they're returning even when they don't have to do so.

Well, as my Son in the Marines says: We love enemies that are ready to die, it just makes them one step closer to our objective....

So we'll take out their roads with our aircraft (I think we have more than 3) and perhaps we will level their mountains that they are so familiar with to a height more easily controlled.

No war fought in another's country has been easy but despite their fanatasicm I am reminded of one of the best scenes from a movie where a Mid eastern is flourishing his scimitar and Indiana Jones has his whip in hand...he drops the whip, pulls out his gun and dispatches the guy with the sword.
Quick, wise decisions and planning. Bend over bin Laden we have all kinds of surprises for you!

Maybe those guys are returning to loot and rob their fellow citizens.

I doubt that there is much to loot and rob. Much of Kabul is in rubble from the power battles between the various "Freedom Fighter" factions after the Russians withdrew and I would imagine the majority of Afghans would prefer that the Talabans be overthrown. However at the same time I do not believe they want it done by Western invasion.

You can be as tough as you want and as wiley and all but if someone sees you in a thermal imaiging sight or with night vision goggles or motion sensing radar and you are huddled under a brown blanket trying to look like a boulder it won't save your butt to really really look like a boulder to the naked eye.
The US has some stuff the Russians did not when they were there. I suppose if toy wore a space blanket as a serape and dry ice in your hat you might slip by or just look like a rabbit or something.

The U.S. wants to get rid of the Taliban altogether and the people of Afghanistan probably know this too. Where can the innocent people flee to if borders are being closed? Are the terrorist groups well known, so they would have trouble crossing the borders?

According to this article in Pakistan's The International News the support for the Taliban is fairly shaky. Admittedly the article uses anedotal evidence but it is still interesting reading.

The UAE cut diplomatic relations with the Taliban and Saudi Arabia will soon. The Afghan northern alliance has begun an offensive and captured several cities (surprise? Surprise?). Taliban money is being frozen around the world and they cannot get weapons.

I was reading a military analysis of fighting in Afghanistan. The main problem is supply. There is only a single narrow valley range to move supplies through as you advance toward Kabul from the North. Small numbers of men can hide in the valley and hold up your supply columns. We might see the ultimate coop. in the form of the Afghans on the ground with their knowledge of the terrain with an ocassional B52 "arc light" mission to protect their fighters as they approach those valleys.

Meanwhile bin Laden saids us a nasty note! We're so evil maybe we should stop paying for those refugee camps in Pakistan!
