Some a$$hole dumped a cage of 3 doves behind my kid's place of work. No cover and it is pouring rain. Because I am the champion of unwanted kids and dogs I went over and picked up the birds. One bird has ripped out his feathers around his neck and shoulders- nerves or mites- I know nothing about doves or birds. What do I feed these guys? Any ideas? My stray dog suggested lunch and she is now outside in her doghouse. I'm pregnant- should I be concerned about any health issues with birds? If anybody has anything to offer- Please let me know.
KrazyKeri is really pi$$- she has never used the dollar sign for the letter S before.
PS The birds are in a rather expensive cage set up with a stand.

Keri, best bet for a quick consult might be a pet store that has birds or your vet...he probably would not be free!
Pigeons (relatives of doves) have an internal parasite called - I will spell it like it sounds as I don't know the proper spelling (cock-sid-ee-osis) and it can be a problem to humans.
Sorry I have nothing else to offer for information.
Except that you can do a search on the net, are these white doves? If so here is one site I came up with.
National White Ceremonial Dove/Pigeons - A listing by state for white doves and pigeon release services for unique weddings, showers, and other events.

Thanks for the response! They are white doves and very pretty. I've located a bird rescue group and they are going to look at the birds tomorrow.

I don't know about domestic doves, but I feed the wild ones chicken scratch mixed with sunflower seed! They love it. So do the pigeons! I have gone from putting out about 10# a week to about 75# ! My car has to be washed every day and twice a day my yard resembles a scene out of Hitchcock's "Birds"!

Do a search with search engines for pet doves and pet bird feed - feed fowl - care of doves - you'll find something
