Interesting article from Time Magazine, trying to trace the roots of why some Arabs hate us so. I realize this has been discussed back and forth, ad nauseum, but I found this to be a particularly insightful and well-balanced look at the issue.

How can I possibly understand their rage toward me? I don't understand how they can be so barbarous to their own people.
When I read about Taliban for instance arrests men because their beard is too short, or have bonfires of TVs and VCRs or place a death penalty on teaching women to read I abandon any hope of understanding. I feel like I'm from a different planet.
I've truly hated a couple of people (one doctor, one ex-girlfriend) but I've never come close to a murder-suicide level of hate with anyone or any thing in my life.
Believe it or not I've had sympathies with the Palestinians in the past, the attack on the WTC didn't turn me against Israel, it made me understand what they are dealing with.

All the Arab states lined up to destroy the state of Israel (1967)and have a hard time dealing with the humiliation of getting their asses kicked in 6 days.
This is the "Roots" of arab rage. Everything else is arab rhetoric.

To paraphrase Benjamin Netanyahu, endeavoring to study the "Roots of Terrorism" is as ludicrous as if the Brits and Americans responded to Captain Kidd and Blackbeard by convening a symposium on the "Roots of Piracy."
