Whatever happened to the KKK? 'Skinheads' too. They used to be 'regulars' on talk shows etc., but you just don't hear about them anymore. (IMO, the BEST comedy on television.) Especially now. Americans are bonding more with each other, so where does that leave them or what's left of them?

I don't know, but I was just thinking of going as a Skinhead for Halloween......I guess a skinhead chick. Just saw that Edward Norton movie, American History X, so I know what skinhead chicks look like. Also, in that movie, the Edward Norton character's swastika tatoo looked like it was drawn on with a magic marker, so I could pull that off.
JUST KIDDING! Maybe. Since I'm not really caucasian it might be funny depending on which party I went to. Would have to be a very close circle of friends.
Seriously, you may be on to something, because lately the whole "White Power" thing has struck me as satirically humorous, where as a couple of years ago it scared me. I still wouldn't be shopping for real estate in Idaho, though.

For years I have been trying to tell the yankees that it just a figment of Hollywood's imagination. Never known or even seen a KKK member in my life. Not even evidence of their existance in my lifetime.

I never understood the KKK outfits either. What on earth is that all about?? Has anyone ever had it explained?

Yeah, Kraft.....and with a cone head wig, you could just throw a sheet over the top and look like a Grand Wizard!
Naaw......I just came to my senses. That whole White Power movement isn't very funny. But as for where the skinheads went, they made a go of it up here in the northwest, but sanity prevailed. The head honcho and his organization (The Aryan Brotherhood or something) in Hayden Lake, Idaho, got busted for something and the whole crew had to (just recently!) sell all their property for taxes and they are just kind of disappearing. Hopefully it was a fad who's time came and went.
Besides, teenage girls who want to be strippers are the main topic on the daytime talk shows now, aren't they?

That's a pretty callous and irresponsible thing to say, terri, particularly when the existence of the KKK is well-documented by the government, not to mention attested to by the bodies of the countless black men who died at their hands. It's like saying the Holocaust never happened either.

Spaz, I never said it didn't happen. It was tragic. But it was a long time ago, at least not in my lifetime. There is a certian portion of the population that watches tv and thinks such things still happen and/or exist. Yes you might find a list somewhere of a "still organized" KKK group. If so I bet you a million dollars it six 80 year old guys in rocking chairs on somebody's front porch shooting bull.
I have seen other lists of "modern hate groups" for my state and the list is a complete FARCE because most of the groups listed should not even be on the list at all.
Was my point. I was not denying history nor being callous.

Why do I think that these mislabelled "modern hate groups" shouldn't be on the list because they're only "southern heritage" groups instead?

In some instances that is true. It's ok to have African American heritage groups, correct? I think both are fine so long as they do not promote hatred.
Another on the list in the past has been the American Family Association. The should NOT be on the list.

We have had KKK marches in the state capital - Lansing in recent times - I mean within the last 5 or 6 years, but all they could muster was about 20 people and they had to have 3 or 4 cops for every klansman to protect them.
About 8 years ago I was in Real Estate and we sold a house near here to a black fellow from Jamaica who was married to a white/asiatic lady and the first night in his house he woke up to a cross burning in his yard.
Being completely unaware of cultural norms he did not realize he was supposed to be cowering in fear. He was also an expert in 4 forms of oriental martial arts. The sucker had had his hands surgically broken and reknit to strengthen them even. So - pissed at what was happening to his grass he charged out in his 'jammies and started dropping bodies all over the lawn. Went like a tornado through a wheat field and then grabbed one unlucky victim by the ankle and dragged him back inside and called the cops. Wouldn't you know with all of them to pick from he got the local police chief's son? Papers had a lot of fun with it.

Your "interesting article" looks fatally flawed, Terri.
Doing a few quick calculations, it looks like he gets his numbers from 13% of the population being black, and then, (though he doesn't say this, but his end results reflect it) that 87% of the population is white.
Apparently using a 13% to 87% comparison of blacks to whites, he concludes that Blacks are 1 1/2 times more likely thank whites to be charged with a hate crime.
You should be able to see where the problem is in his analysis.

I didn't do the math Donny. As I keep reminding you, 71% of the population here is the "minority". That math seems a little flawed too.
I will just delete the link then. I don't want to promote something that is mathematically inaccurate.

The thing is, Terri, that if 13% of the population is black it does not follow that 87% of the population is white. That simple calculation completely disregards Hispanics, etc.
In truth, the "white" population will be quite a bit lower than 87%. He would have to work his analysis on a true black vs. white basis, not merely a black vs. everyone else basis to find the real correlation between black vs. white hate crime arrest statistics.
Using a faulty basis, he "proves" that blacks are arrested for hate crimes at a 1 1/2 ratio vs. whites. The real ratio will be lower, because whites comprise less than 87% of the population.

I did realize that after you indicated that it was flawed. I don't follow the national statistics either BTW. I only know my local ones.
Statewide:
White 61%
African American 36.3%
All Other 2.7%
For my county, other races:
American Indian 0.1%
Asian 0.6%
Some other 0.2%
You see why it didn't really jump out at me.
(The 71% figure is for Metro Jackson which is in my county and my nearest city.)

Just straight factual story. Poor guy was real confused about why they were destroying his landscaping. Real nice guy with a beautiful British (to my ear) accent.
I never have had any trouble getting along with bikers, but I did knock the snot out of a couple drunk sailors that wanted to fight in a city jail. James Bond adventure it was not. Never been in Folsom just Milan. I have been stabbed but never shot. an experience I have always been happy to skip.
My poor car has had it's windows shot out however, and that will make your heart go pitty - pat.
I repaired the plumbing in a house of a mobster who had the toilet shot out from under him as he was doing his business. That had to smart. Now Bond might use that if it was James shooting.

Not for taxes...
Butler, 82, was due to turn over the property to Victoria and Jason Keenan as early as this week. The Keenans last month won a negligence lawsuit against Butler after they were shot at and assaulted by Aryan Nations security guards in 1998.

Gravid, I pulled it right from the 2000 census. I did not see hispanic listed individually with enough in count to create a percentage on the county table. (?)
It is 1.4% for the entire state and most hispanics are in a few counties I believe. I lumped them in with "all other" in my state statistics.
I don't know a thing about Italians.
Helen, I addressed this list some time back individually by group, pointing out those that should not be on the list and why. You can search for that old thread. Not going to do it again.
Must go now. Stuff to do.

I find it interesting that you can come to these boards swearing by something as amorphous and impossible to prove as the Rapture, yet deny hard factual evidence attesting to the existence of hate groups, the KKK in particular.
No wonder these groups are able to stay active. There's an old saying: All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing. In light of your post, I'd like to suggest an addendum to that old saying: Or pretend it doesn't exist.

Sorry the Italians was tongue in cheek - I should have used a smiley.
When I was living in North Carolina in 1959 there were still Klan active. Not only would they bother the blacks but if say someone was beating his wife the relatives would have someone inside goive the word and a group of them would go out and rough the fellow up and warn him to treat her real sweet or they would be back and really get ugly with him.
Once I knew of a merchant that was running monthly tabs for people and he started padding the bill witha couple extra items and they had a little talk with him also.

In keeping with the tone some have expressed on other threads perhaps a different approach should be taken.
Maybe the victims of hate groups need to look to themselves at the reason they have generated such hate.
Don't you just hate when your arguments come back and haunt you?
