I just got this email from CNN Breaking News:

Hijacked Indian airliner lands in New Delhi, CNN confirms. Details soon.

At least it says it landed as opposed to crashed... no details yet.

Not much news yet, this from MSNBC.com...

STAR NEWS said all 54 passengers remained aboard the jet, which was parked at an isolated area at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The plane was surrounded by police and commandos.
There was no word on the number of hijackers. The TV station reported that authorities had opened communications with them.
The jet belonged to the Alliance company, a domestic subsidiary of Indian Airlines.
India has been on alert since the Sept. 11 terror attacks in the United States, in which hijackers seized jetliners and struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

They just added this:

Suspected Islamic militants exploded a car bomb near the entrance to India’s disputed Kashmir state legislature on Monday, then opened fire on security forces inside, killing 40 people and wounding dozens. A Pakistan-based militant group, Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility.
On Dec. 24, 1999, five hijackers seized an Indian Airlines flight carrying 178 passengers and 11 crew members after it left Nepal. The captors killed one passenger and released others early in the hijacking. The hijackers left the plane in Afghanistan with 155 hostages on board on Dec. 31 after India agreed to release three prisoners.

Thanks for the info Meya. I had to run pick up my son so I haven't heard anything else yet. I hope it's under control.

I just found this one. If I'm reading it correctly it looks like the passengers are still on board with the hijackers.

Thanks for the update mybiddness! I'm wondering if there will be "copycat" style terrorist acts now? That bus ordeal sounded like it to me (???)

USA isnt going to be alone with the hits from terrorists. I think they have plans to kill in many countries and picked ours first. Now they are moving on with Plan B.

Fighting over Kashmir between Pakistan and India has been going on for long before the Sept. 11th attack, it's a disputed region dating back to (or before) Pakistan's separation from India in 1947.

If this latest Indian hijacking is related to the previous one, and the Sept. 11th attack, it wouldn't be a case of picking us first, we'd have to deal with the fact that we were plan B, or maybe even C or D.

Deliteful, Here's a piece of that link. I probably shouldn't be laughing but it is comical.

The message to the ATC, which said the plane had been hijacked, was promptly passed on to the pilots who locked the cockpit. All the while, passengers thought the hijackers were inside the cockpit while the pilots were under the impression that the hijackers were with the passengers.

Apparently there never were any hijackers. Someone's in big trouble, I'll bet.

Well, thank goodness.

Just goes to show that we're (the USA) not the only one's a little 'on edge' right now.

It probably isnt funny to the cockpit crew, nor the passengers, but I too smiled at the news story. I like to think of it as nervous laughing relief that they are all safe and what they did is better safe than dead.
