Sounds suspiciously like "secret police" to me.

At least they're not calling it People's Office of Homeland Defense.

What a challenging job for a former Pennsylvania governor!

According to CBS,
Ridge said his new task as one to "detect, prepare for, prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks - an extraordinary mission but we will carry it out."

I wonder what qualifies him to undertake a job like this?

Well, as the late comedian, Myron Cohen, use to say:

"Everybody's got to be somewhere."

------

What qualified a governor from Arkansas to be president?

What qualifed a governor from Texas to be president?

I was wondering myself what makes him qualified but I haven't seen any of the columnists criticize the appointment.

That means one of two things:

1) He's qualified.
2) They were intimidated.

They were intimidated.

LOL, James.

Well, if the current administration thought he was qualifed to be vice president (he was considered), then, I'm sure he is qualifed for this new position.

Besides, it's a newly created office. Who's to say what qualifications are required to direct it.

It is a political position so the primary qualification is his loyalty set. An it is rarely to an individual or party and never alone to the constitution. It IS a set.
People at this level never make specific detail decisions. They either pick people who DO have the skills to operate in the real world or they fail and are replaced.
The problem is if he picks a bum set of operatives then as has happened with the FAA and the FBI once a departmental culture is established the fired people never reach down far enough in the ranks to really change anything.
Indeed this may be an end run around that very problem. They can take funds and turf away from the failed agencies and give this new one a chance to get it right.

Gee, I didn't realize I was making a funny or I surely would have included a smiley.

Yet another missed opportunity.

Ok, here's the obvious smiles:

What qualifies an actor to be President?

Or better yet ...

What qualifies a WWF Wrestler to be Governor?

Sorry .... I couldn't resist

BTW,

Ridge did well as Governor of PA ... he will be missed.

My first thought when they made this position was, "Isn't that what the National Security Advisor should be doing?".

I think we just created another federal bureaucracy that the NSA should have doing all along.
Not my name on ebay.
