This was the true beginning of the Round Table (called "General Chat" back then). Notice that there are only two pages of threads.
This was a mere one month after the First Exodus from AW and the earliest threads on the page are about the time the first Board, set up by those who left, had crashed and burned. Some of those who left returned briefly for one evening and a thread was opened in a dusty area of AW called "General Chat" called "Table for 316". You can see that thread in the Overview. Most of the links on the page still work, if you are inclined to take a walk down memory lane.
I also found a an old thread overview from the eBay Outlook:

How do you find this stuff! LOL
So many user names I had forgotten all about!Looks like Maui/Hepburn was MauiMoods back then, I think I was still Timeworn and hardly ever posted.Whatever happened to Tokay?? She only checked in once I think after she had her baby. Itsamoomoo...so many that just disappeared! Fun to see the names again and remember the really fun times! Thanks Irene!
Hey, have you clicked on the "register" link on the sign in page here at AW? It doesn't mention using a CC...of course I can only go to the first page since I am already registered. I wonder if they quietly dropped the CC requirement???Wish I knew someone that wanted to register.........

Wow! Irene. That is really fascinating and I'll probably be reading all night. It covers a period before I was here but I recognize a lot of the posters.

rawbunzel The CC requirement is still there - I just tested it . When you hit "Post Reply" you get the following message:
Valid Credit Card required to post in Message Center
Auctionwatch uses a credit card to internally identify message center users. Posting in the message center is free - credit cards will not be charged for message center use and all data will remain private.
Please click here to enter your credit card.
AW removing the requirement, quietly or otherwise, would be tantamount to admitting a mistake. Not likely
Sticking around to piss them off...

It's a pity that all of the links don't work. I remember that thread that Whole9yards started. It was rather interesting to see the very strong personalities interact very pleasantly together (Whole9yards, SgtMike, Pareau).
Poor Whole9yards. He didn't last long in that reincarnation (that was the first I think since he was permanently suspended in early January of that year). He didn't take his suspension as Whole9yards very well... He learned to become much more philosophical about his suspensions in his subsequent reincarnations.
