How've you been, were your holidays nice?

Hi enchanted. Good to see you. My holiday has been great! Hope you are enjoying yours. Do you have any plans for New Years Eve? I always stay home. Never have like to go out to celebrate on that night. I enjoy being home by myself drinking egg nog and brandy, and watching the festivities on TV. Just kind of reflecting on the past and future.

Hi Chococake!
I had to laugh when I read "abandoned ship"? My first thought was which ship? HaHaHa (the home ship or the AW ship)
Like you, I'm ready to relax. I don't want to cook or party or drive with all the drunks on the road.
I guess a lot of folks are still on vacation.
Have a Happy New Year!

AW went down again for approx. 24 hours yesterday. No one noticed?

Well, I came over Christmas Day about 1:00pm(can you believe that) and couldn't get into AW at all.
Yesterday (26th) I notice someone posted early in the AM, but nothing more all day.
So today, I figured everything would be back to normal...does normal ever really apply here????
Still slow isn't it?????
I went out to a New Year's Eve celebration once. Had reservations waaaay in advance and turns out the place overbooked. It was horrible. Absolutely nowhere to sit, couldn't dance either because it was standing room only and that was sholder to sholder and the dance floor was just an ocean of people...I was there about 30minutes and decided it was not for me and left. Just as well, the firemarshal ended up closing the place down about 11:00pm for being about 3times over limit!!!!
I swore, never again!!!!
So, I celebrate with Dick Clark now!

Is this the new Survivors thread? lol
Lately we've been staying home New Years also. Not such a big deal anymore. I was thinking today of how we used to work in two or three parties and then go out. Today it seems like it must have been someone else.

Lol, antiquary. My husband and I look back on our youthful escapades too and wonder "who were those people?" I guess we've joined the old fogies who stay home New Year's Eve.

LOL can I join the Old Fogies party on New Year's Eve? We don't go out either. I partied plenty when I was young and don't have a taste for it anymore, prefer to relax at home. We could have an Old Fogy New Year's Eve thread here at the RT for those not going out

antiquary lol, I like that, we are the Survivors I guess! I think we did lose more posters after the last 24 hr fiasco. I'm sure AW is always suprised we still pop up.
I will go down with the ship, but I think AW should come in here and tell us what the heck is happening. I want to start listing again after the first of the year, and I sure don't want any down time with AW. Bad enough worrying about eBay.
For our New Years celebration I will pass on the Geritol and stick with my egg nog and Brandy. Figure I'm not driving, and if my typing gets a little funny I won't hurt any of you.

Hey! I haven't jumped ship [been busy!]...I do take the occasional trip out in the dingy but I'm still here. I intend to go down with the ship too.
New Years Eve at the RT? I'll be here. We never go anywhere either. Too crowded and I hate to leave the dogs to fend for themselves on a holiday. Never know what they'll get into!
I'll be drinking something with Vodka. Maybe tequila. Maybe Amaretto. Maybe all of them! LOL

Hi Krafty...the entertainment....hmmm maybe we'll get lucky and a happy troll will pop in. They usually do show up on the holidays. They used to anyway. Things are different now. Not even many trolls visit here ~ or anywhere for that matter.
We'll just have to be our own entertainment I guess. Not that we don't know how.

Hi rawbunzel, ha, knew you were somewhere around. Hope you can swim.
Yes, what we need is a New Year Troll. So, I'm extending a special invitatation to all you trolls to get the New Year off to a roaring start. I'll even settle for a growl to liven this place up. Huh, what do you think?

I've been involved in my project for the New Year- guerilla ontology, as seen
here.
Should be fun.
Do visiting trolls have CCs? Maybe there should be a CC aimed at that demographic.

Now here's a switch ...
It looks like we will be driving the in-laws out to a polka show, then spending time with my mother and then going back and picking them up and taking them home.
What a hoot! We haven't told them yet ... we will make it a surprise. The state took away my father-in-law's driving license because he doesn't see well and my mother-in-law is afraid to drive so it will be nice to take them where they want to go.
I am glad it is near my mother's, though. A night of button box music is a bit much for me!
BECKY
But then again, my Mother-In-Law will probably refuse to go. Then my butt will be at home

mrssantaclaus, polka music is one my secret favorites. I like accordian music and the beat, so there ya go. However you celebrate I hope it's happy.
AW Survivor? What do I win, a certificate, an AW T-shirt? We need a prize. I'm gonna win bwahahaha. Seriously if they ever closed the message boards, they'd have to kick me out the door the last night. Roll me out the door would be more accurate, considering all the cyber-food I've enjoyed on these chatboards.
Rawbunz, glad to see you ventured out on your dingy to my little desert isle the other night.
I'm not touching the "entertainment" discussion with a 10 foot pole. The last time I threw a party here, all hell broke loose. I'm bringing my New Age CD's, some Van Halen and the karaoke machine for when we get loosened up, and sitting in the corner.

will you come to our New Year's Eve bash, Helen?

This will be good!! I've volunteered for one of the troll positions but will need someone to help me out. I suspect there will be lots of whining Monday night, so I will be practicing my trolling skills all day Monday to prepare. I've dusted off the Fun Meter, so I think I'm all set.
P.S. Helen, I will be honing my trolling skills this upcoming Monday, December 31, 2001. All troll-style statements will be in jest only. Thank-you!

We may be older, but I'd wager that we're all still pretty damned good at those things that matter to us.
Maybe the web could use a good Rent-a-Troll service for cybercelebrations, new business sites, etc. Nothing is free anymore.
There's most likely some good money in the mass market for troll literature. Trolling For Fun and Profit. The Troll Within. Confessions of an Internet Troll. Trolling for Dummies. The possibilities are legion.

Antiquary, that is the best idea I've heard all day, LOL. You should sell it on a CD on ebay. There's probably a great demand for it, much more than for the 1 cent CD I'm Leaving Ebay!
Rent-a-Troll, heh. People are doing it for free now, think what they're missing out on, they could be making money from it.

Good suggestion about the CD, enchanted. I do think that there's some money in the trolling angle. The writing appeals to me especially. I've just read Stephen King's On Writing and with the raw material from the OAI boards I'm pretty sure that I have the makings for a good short story or short novel. Using eBay in the title as well as the social setting would insure enough demand alone to make the project profitable.
Any other suggestions would be welcome. My brother from Texas has arrived for a short visit so I'll check back later for any ideas from you creative people here.

I agree enchanted! I'm thinking book deal. Maybe the story of a troll that was IGNORED and went insane, leading to coma or something. Maybe even leading to a movie!!!
Thanks Helen. ;0
