I try and I try to get rid of the spam in my e-mail. I click on "remove," or I do what they tell me to do and send a message requesting "remove." I still get all the CRAP that's coming over the internet, everything from "enlarge your P---s" and college-girl porn to insurance scams and "make a million from sending e-mail messages on the internet"! I resent it mightily.
Has anyone in congress tackled this yet? Do you know a way to block this junk? It truly clogs up my e-mail. ~Adele

The best way I've found to get rid of spam was changing my email address three times in a month. I didn't do it on purpose (ISP problems) - but it did have the right results where spam's concerned. Seriously, you might try using an ad/subtract type of program that blocks ads. I'm assuming that it might also block them from picking up your info to add to their data base... I'm not sure if that would help but it can't hurt.

Hi mybid and roadsmith! happy holidays to you both.
A word of advice from someone I know who works at a company that actually sends out loads of commercial emails (nothing like what you've referred to above, but the same principles apply).
1) Never reply with "remove". It might seem contrary to common sense, but actually it compounds the problem. Once you reply with remove, you have now verified to the computer receiving the "remove" email that your email address is valid and can be reached again. You might get off that list (maybe) if they ever process all the removes they receive (don't hold your breath, some mail programs are written to automatically delete all remove emails). Once a program figures out your email address is valid, you will end up on more lists.
2) Learn to use mail rules with your email program to search for mail with certain words and automatically delete it or put it in a trash folder for you to scroll through before you delete it. It's much more efficient than mailing these people back.
3) if the email is obviously harvested from your ebay id, you can complain to ebay and you can sometimes get results. Or complain to the service provider of the mail originator, if you know the actual service provider.
Also maybe someone here is aware of an email program that would be helpful.
Dman is very knowledgeable and helpful, he probably knows more than I do about how to contact abuse @ ISPXYZ. If you catch him out and about at AW you might want to ask him.

I run my dads ebay auctions and he uses a Hotmail address so that I can access his email easily from my computer. Yesterday took the cake. In the morning he had 520 junk emails in his junk mail folder-500+ from the same email addy. When I checked last night he had 330 emails in his junk mail folder. Needless to say this makes him go over his hotmail account limit and effectively shuts it down until I delete the crap! It's a good thing he's on Christmas break and not selling anything or this could have caused major problems.
It's time to change his email addy. Any ideas on a good email provider you can access from any computer?

yes, they have. The GOP (Republican Party) came out strongly on national TV and proudly stated their undying support of the American Marketer's Association's right to spend SPAM and junk mail to you! They vowed on the steps of Congress on CNN to block, cancel, or destroy any and all legislation of any sort that would restrict the spammer's right to pound you with unwanted emails! And to date, they have shot down, torn apart, and blocked quite a few Consumer Protection bills brought before Congress to stem the tide. Even bills that would make it a crime to send email using fake headings (fraud, scams) have been ferociously fought over and torn to pieces and killed in committees by the Republicans. And they're stinkin' proud of it too!

Borillar: That really makes me angry! I suspect most of those Republicans don't ever see all the spam that comes to their computers. Just as Congress doesn't have a clue about health-care costs, with their own being free of charge (for life, too, I think?!).
So. . . in the meantime, I've stopped sending "remove" messages, and the messages are just getting more and more numerous anyway.

Roadsmith, all you can do to stop it is to vote Democrat in all of the elections. With the full weight of the GOP behind them, spammers are hammering away mercilessly at us and there is next to nothing that can be done about it. Any email account that you have that a spammer finds out about is the death-nell for that account. Once one of them get it, the rest eventually find out about it as well and begin to pound you. Add to that the blatant lies told by many corporations that promise not to give out your private information but actually do. And they can't be punished for that either. The only thing that I've come up with is Washington State's email laws http://news.cnet.com/news/0-1278-210-6344921-1.html. Get poltically active and get your state to enact the same laws.

Yes, of course I vote Democratic! Always. (Except in 1968 when Hubert Humphrey was running; to our everlasting shame, we both voted for N---n that year). I was an elected official 1991-1997.
I've said many times that if Jesus walked this earth today and had to pick a political party he'd be a Democrat. All of his policies, actions, opinions pointed to that. His care of the downtrodden and poor, his assistance to the ill, driving the moneychangers out of the temple, etc.

Try spamcop.net
I use them to get rid of unwanted spam and it works great!
By the way, I was in my account on AW and was updating my personal information. I didn't realize I had the "yes" option listed to list my e-mail.
After I hit submit, within 5 minutes I was bombarded with 10 vulgar spam e-mails. It had to come from posting my e-mail, because that e-mail is only used for my AW account.
I immediately went back and update my personal info, but notified Spam Cop anyway to forgo any new spam.
So far, so good!
