Sounds great. So now PLEASE explain to our State Dept that this is also true when American interests go into foreign lands.
Also, explain this to our oil companies in South America and the Persian Gulf, as well as our corporations in Malaysia, and the rest of the Pacific rim.
If we expect our cultural to be respected here in the US, then we must also respect other cultures when in their country. This includes not using American power and influence to effect the politics and policies of other nations.
What comes around goes around. These "issues" with foreigners in the US are no different than those expressed by bin Laden and many others.

I agree, Reamond. Sounds as though the writer will now demand that U.S. women overseas, let's say in Arab lands, will be fully veiled - because of course they should conform to the country that's hosting them?!!! And of course they won't be allowed to go out during the day or drive cars.

while I don't agree with everything in the first post, it is referring to those who *immigrate* to this country to live not those coming here on business, so your analogies don't fit. While one doesn't expect a visitor to a foreign country to adapt to all its customs, the same isn't true of an immigrant to that country. I must say, if I moved to Germany or Japan, I think it would behoove me to learn the language of that country, learn its customs, and adapt to them. I certainly wouldn't expect my new country to cater to my old language or customs...

The stipulation of "immagrating" is a distinction without a difference. Americans have had a perminent presence in the Persian Gulf for over 50 years. They don't have to be declared "immigrants" in those countries because the US demands that these countries allow them to stay without becomming citizens of that country. We have had several generations in the region through Aramco and other corporate machinations. There is a perminent American settlement for American workers in Saudi Arabia- it has been there for decades. How would you feel if a foreign country put an non-assimilating settlement in your state ?
It is without merit to stipulate that it is OK to inculcate your culture into another because it is done by a corporation or our State Dept. while the "others" do it by immigration. The effects and results are the same, except that the US corporations often weild more power in these countries than the people or govt do.

We, as Americans, have no respect and a blatant disregard for other cultures in their own countries. I have been to a few foreign countries in my time. I see the arrogant and ignorant buffoon in corner seat acting like an idiot, drunk as a skunk, loud and obnoxious......and an American. Even the family of Tourists on vacation can't even conceive of people in other countries not speaking English. They just can't figure out why these "foreigners" won't get with the program!

Great observation
Well all I can say to both of you is here is another great observation,
No American got in a goddam plane
Slit a stewardesses throat with a box cutter and then slammed it into a building filled with innocent people in their country.
Next I did not write this, I am not the author, I do not know who the author is, However I strongly suspect the author has millions who agree with him (or Her)on many of thse points.
Next off Dont lecture me about oil corps If you have read my posts then you know that I think the only thing lower than a politician in morality is a banking or corporate type.
As far as how we should act when going to other count ries what the hell are you talking about ? Tourists great tell em to stay home and let the sand sucking tree climbinguncivilized ass wipes starve with out our tourist dolalrs and foreign aid.
are you talking about our corporations and how they act over seas I think I have covered what I think of them and our politicians,
Are you talking about our service men and women ? cause if you are bite my ass. Ungreatful sons a ditches all over the world only to happy to have Americans die for them
You know welcome to France now die or get out. The fact is is that we do not have to act like wimps half the damm planet lives off the American working peoples paycheck.
And I have news for you several foreign countries have settlemnets here that are not assimilating notably milions of invading Mexicans who their president says have dual citizenship.

..." let the sand sucking tree climbinguncivilized ass wipes starve...."
I know you'll probably tell me to bite your ass (not a pretty picture I get there) if I don't know who you're talking about, but please, bend over and tell me who you're talking about....

While no Americans have hi jacked planes and flew them into another country's population, you must look at what our country has done in these foreign conutries.
We have supported dictators that have tortured and killed many more than were killed on 9-11. We have purposely undermined and aided the overthrow of legitmately elected governments.
Even now our State Dept is providing money and support in opposition of the elcted leader of an oil producing South American country. Our State Dept immediately recognized a new leader in a coup, and then reversed itself when the coup leader stepped down after a revolt by the population. That "socialist" leader is back in power and we are supporting and fermenting his opposition.
How would we feel if a foreign power came into our country and dictated who would govern ?
If we insist on sticking our fingers into other people's pies, we're going to get our hand bit sooner or later.
It has become a very small world. We need to be conscious of the fact that we inject our culture into countires around the world, whether we're invited to or not.

While I would be one of the first to say that the US has put its nose where it doesn't belong at times, and that Bush's attempt to make all nation's kowtow to his war on terrorism is wrong, we are not responsible for all the ills in the world. Other nations do just as much nose-sticking. Other nation's citizens can and do behave just as badly when visiting other countries (Britain having a real problem with this, for example).
And our country is also in a lose-lose position. When we do stick our nose in there are howls about evil Americans trying to run everything. When we don't stick our nose in there are howls of "where's America, why aren't they here, they should be doing something about this".... I sometimes wish the world would make up its mind. I also wish that all the countries who have happily taken money & aid from us over the years would pay us back. You know, all those countries in Asia, Africa, South America. European countries might even consider repaying all the dough we spent rebuilding them under the Marshall Plan--most of which has never been repaid. Nah, they're all too busy vilifying us to do that, I guess. But cut down on the amount of aid given and we sure hear about it.

Mexico is doing a pretty good job at dictation. We cater to their nationals. We cater to their businesses. We cater to their language. And it is so heartwarming to see our state government doing its best to give illegal aliens as much rights--and sometimes more--as citizens. I am so thrilled to see that if they have their way, illegal aliens will soon be issued driver's licenses!

The fact is is that the average citizen here
is seen by foreigners thru the limited contact with a tiny portion of our citizenry when can and feels like traveling to their country for whatever reason.
They make this impression add it to the impression of our government leaders and ambassadors and our ever present media.
Only a fool would say this is what America is like and this is a big place while we do have a major social and political walmartization going on there are still lotsa of areas that are as different as night and day.
Most of the third world is ignorant. Ignorant means they they dont know anything.
to quote a biker that dont know jack S---.
Their leaders keep them that way so they are to dumb to figure out how bad they are getting screwed.
We are the target because we are wealthy and happy and secure compared to their miserable existance.
We the Americans have been bleed dry by the hordes of the rest of the world at first by the hateful actions of France and England and their native allies, Later By the Muslim empire and their petty potentates at algiers, tripoli, qualla battoo and many other hovels,
We rebuilt both sides after World war one and the ungrateful basterds did it again.
This is why our military has a tendacy to play cop because if they dont we pay for it later BIG time.
There is way too much foreign influence here, a good example is the Chinese campaign contributions that Clinton accepted. The chain of the money led back to the general who murdered the kids fighting for democracy. He ought to be ashamed for this.
This is why we had an election that split our country because Clinton voters for the most part were worried that bush would steal from social security and the working people
and Bush voters were worried that Clinton would push more gun control
and give away military technology more to communist china
pretty sickening choices I might add.

I was not even aware of the other location til you mentioned it.
I will say this I think that people should work for what they get, But I feel workfare is slavery cleaned up and I think it does not make a lot of difference to a worker who displaces then when we are talking about foreign cheap labor or American prison labor.
We see a lot of these fat mouthy petty facist pricks trying to make some point by lording it over the poor and poorly represented ppeople they push around today on tv.
Usually hyped as some wonder sherrif or other dickhead WHO has learned how to play the I'm a personality game and does not actually know jack didly about the investigation of crimes and or law enforcement.

I'm not a Christian, but after a thourough study of the colonial period a person would have to be foolish to say that they were not Christians of one flavor or another.
