Okay, so the last bike I rode had a banana seat and a sissy bar. I figured it was time to try bike riding again to stay in shape. I picked up a Motobecane Nomade II at the flea market. Does anyone know anything about these? Age? Or, how to properly clean it? I know it's not new, but it looked like something I could ride without killing myself. Looks like it has all the original parts. I guess that's a plus. It rides really nice. The seat is murder on the backside though. I'm used to the cushy couch I suppose. Anyway, I'd like to clean it up without destroying any value it may have.

Cheryl - Have you done a 'google' search on this bike? I just took a very quick look and there are some they refer to as 'vintage'.
Here's one that came up under a google search. Scroll down to the bottom and they have a picture. Not sure if it's the model you have, but there's also a chat board there....maybe someone there might be able to help you out.

also....when I did the google search they had a link for looking for 'Motobecane Nomade II' on ebay. Maybe a quick search there might help too.

Thanks, Linda. I posted on that site. I guess $20 was really cheap for that bike. Who would have guessed. I'd never heard of Motobecane before. The bike is 1970's and the one thing I like about it is it does not have the curled handle bars so I don't have to ride all hunched over. Let's face it, at my age that's not a good position to be in.

I had a similar problem with about anything I saw. So I bought a mountain bike - took it in to the bike shop and told him to put handlebars on it that I would not have to lean forward to use and put a seat off an exercise bike on it. After a year I took it back told him to take any crap off that could rust and now I'm pretty happy.
