WARNING: THE PICTURES IN THIS THREAD CONTAIN NUDITY AND ARE NOT FOR THE PRUDISH

Now that I got your attention...

This is one of the non-political threads Kraft requested. At the end of September I will be getting a new addition to my household: a Xoloitzcuintle (pronounced show-low-eats-queen-tly). This is a hairless breed--well almost: they can have a bit of hair on their heads, feet and tails, and there is also a "powderpuff" variety that does have a coat.

My girl is almost 3 years old, and is considered pet quality due to the consistency of the hair on her head (way too long & fluffy). The breeder allowed her to have one litter (very rare breed) but when she didn't throw puppies any better than herself, had her fixed & is letting her go as a pet. You can see from the pictures how cute she was when pregnant!!

I will be re-naming her because I don't like the froo-froo name she has right now. So, everybody, meet Gypsy Rose Lee!

Doc: yes, I'll be getting her a coat or sweater, although here in Southern California it doesn't get real cold too often, especially where I live.

She looks like a tiny pony.! Glad you are in Ca. I guess without fur, she'd be prone to skin cancer so watch the sun.. Love her new name!

Yep, already got the info from the lady I'm getting her from on what sunblock she recommends.

She has been running around on the woman's 3 acre farm when she plays, so she can't be too delicate. Xoloitzcuintle's are a much hardier dog than the related Chinese Crested, which is one of the reasons I went with this breed. I thought about the American Hairless Terrier, too, but the Xoloitzcuintle kept drawing me back.

Bunni, I got curious so was reading about Xolos and it says they are very devoted and intelligent. Also quite rare as there are only about 4000 in the world?

In the bottom picture she reminds me of a little Bambi.

Kiara-- yes, it is a pretty rare breed. I saw some years ago at a rare breed dog show and have thought about them on & off over the years.

Actually, it was my Great Dane, Chandra, who revived my interest in the Xoloitzcuintle!! Danes shred prodigiously all year round. My grehound, Merlin, runs a close second but nothing like Chandra was. This past year, the shedding has seemed to be worse then ever (maybe all in my mind, but!) and I began to think longingly of a hairless dog. Now that Chandra has passed away, I decided to look into the idea more seriously, and voila! Enter Gypsy Rose Lee...

edited to add: forgot to say that there are three sizes: toy, miniature and standard. Gypsy Rose Lee is a miniature. Someday I'd like to get the larger standard type, too.

What a pretty girl!

What a pretty girl!

All she needs is a little red feather in her hair! And then, Gypsy Rose Lee can tell the breeder who rejected her to shove it!

Twig: Is this the same as a Chinese Crested?

No, though they are related. Chinese Crested were derived from the Xoloitzcuintle. As you can see from Gyspsy Rose Lee, the trait for long white fluffy head hair does exist in the Xoloitzcuintle, but it is not "desirable." The breedersof the Chinese Crested, though, have worked to develop it.
