Name this song and then add your own...
"Good morning America how are you?
Don't you know me I'm your native son,"

The City of New Orleans
by Steve Goodman
On our little girls third birthday
She got a sandbox in the back yard to play
Sand was everywhere as she played and she laughed
I fussed at her for it killed all my grass

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train,
Feeling nearly faded as my jeans,
Bobby flagged a diesel down, just before it rained,
Took us all the way to New Orleans.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose.
Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free.
Feelin' good was easy Lord, when Bobby sang the blues.

Bobby McGee by one of my favorites:
Janis Joplin from Port Arthur, Texas.
One of my friends went to high school with Janis. She was from the "wrong side of the tracks", not very popular. She came back to their high school reunion in her limousine and "gave em he**. Bless her heart.
You go Janis!

In this world, if you read the papers, Lord,
You know everybody’s fighting on with each other.
You got no one you can count on, baby,
Not even your own brother.

Karaoke? Not me Maggie, but I go to watch. My grandson won a Karaoke contest a couple of weeks ago.
He's a hoot, ex-navy guy, model, 24, single. Any rich, young girls out there?

I always though it was: freedom just another word for nothing left to lose....
Funny, you can think the wrong lyrics for years on some songs. Even when you hear them right you still think of the old way you thought of them!
..
Maggie, I karoked this song:
..You fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness, ease my troubles thats what you do...."

bill, no I havent but I bet was it funny. She has a way of making the ordinary very funny.
I watched the show a bit a few days ago. And some elderly lady made this horrid face and covered her ears when some music played and Ellen called her up on the phone. She invited the lady back to the studio, and the lady was like, "well, I dont know if I want to come back down there, can you send me a car" LOL!! It was funny!
A friend of mine many years ago was drunk and sang "memories in the corners of my eyes..." another one said she always thought that song by o-jays? Bad Luck was (and I hope this doesnt offend anyone) Rag on...thats what ya got, thats what you got. LOL!!

So if someone comes along,
He’s gonna give you some love and affection
I’d say get it while you can, yeah!
Honey, get it while you can
I'd karaoke with friends at a local Holiday Inn in Houston, what a blast.. the more I had to drink, the better I sounded.. Ha!
We thought we were such hot stuff! LOL
Oh, and I have always and forever made up my own lyrics.. hee hee..
Neroter, I have a feeling that you have a very good voice! I bet you could sing Ode to Billie Joe, couldn't you.. that's a tough one to do right by.. Bobbie Gentry had an unusual voice.. did she ever make another hit recording? Maggie

OK. Wrong words to a song reminds me of the old Baptist joke from my younger days. The kid came in from Sunday School and told his mother they had sung about a bear named gladly. His mother said "Oh, can you sing it for me".
The kid said sure, "Gladly, the cross-eyed bear."
Groan, I'll say good-night all on that one.
Bill
Edited to say: Gladly, the cross I'd bear.
For red-heads with blonde moments.LOL

OK. I'm not gone yet and just saw maggie's post. No, Bobbie Gentry was a one-hit wonder. I think she married one of the owners of a large casino in Las Vegas (Harrah or someone??) and lived mostly happily ever after. At least until she divorced, I think, and with that settlement, she probably did live happily ever after. LOL
