If they go like all the previous ones, they'll be asinine questions with no time
for real answers and no followups. All questions will be approved in
advance by the candidates' PR hacks. It's called the theater of illusion.

Maggie, you're right as usual. My husband was just telling me how "staged" it's going to be.....certain number of feet apart.....bush can't appear to be shorter than Kerry (he is).....can't look at each other. ....will be asked pre-approved questions(so the illiterate bush can try to memorize Rove's answers).
Republicans are trying to desperately hide the gigantic spread between bush's IQ of 85 and Kerry's which is about 80-90 points higher.
The "debate" doesn't exist.

I am looking forward to their debate on foreign policy this Thursday.
But I am disappointed in the proposed format. It's going to be like they're giving individual speeches rather than being an actual debate..back and forth between the two.
kerry tends to do well at giving speeches, but he gets oh-so-flustered when asked 'off-the-cuff' questions...and tends to go on and on and on - never really completing a final thought. When he's finished no one knows what his answer was. Just like his Imas [a kerry supporter] said after he interviewed him - when it was over he still didn't have a clue as to kerry's position
So without the back and forth of a true debate, which I would have LOVED to see...at least kerry might finally be forced to state his most recent position on Iraq.
As for the success of Kerry's anti-democracy protests and his leadership of the VVAW and association with Fonda's Winter Soldier Investigation, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Vietnam's most decorated military leader, wrote in retrospect that if not for the disunity created by such stateside protesters, Hanoi would have ultimately surrendered.

Maybe bush will say something like........
The terrorist will never try to stop finding ways to hurt the American people, and neither will we.
Or, maybe he will look at his watch like his dad did when debating Clinton.
I am sure that Georgie boy will provide us with some great laughs.

Chris Matthews said tonight it's going to be more like a two person interview than a debate. The republicans have put so many stipulations on time limits, movement away from the podium, no direct address from one candidate to the other, etc. that the President is well insulated against any actual debate.
When asked why the Democrats would ever agree to those rules, Al Sharpton said he thought the Republicans had tried to impose so many rules in hopes that Kerry would decline altogether.

Very true! How anyone can call this a debate is beyond me. When the two key players can not interact its more like a photo op then anything else.
I was hoping for some real meat in this discussion. Will watch it but do not think anything of substance will come out of it.

I agree, Trai, but I got tired of telling people to please quit calling it a debate.
It's more of a
"Let's Make It Easy For That Blundering, Blubbering Incompetant bush To Not Embarrass Himself Too Much"
Or just two press conferences going on at the same time.

Well Linda, you can thank GW for the format. Just proves another tactic used by the neocons in hopes of avoiding the debates altogether. The requirements by the Bushies are absolutely absurd. Now GW is afraid of appearing as a midget. Go figure.
