Banned under Saddam, private schools in Iraq are now free to teach fundamentalism. Oh good...

Instead of teaching the alphabet, the goal in Beytool's class is to memorize 28 basic verses from the Koran, and learn how to wash before prayers. The school's director says: "the most important thing for a child to know is religion."

Oh, Boy!...No battles over the separation of church and state in Iraq...Maybe the fundamentalist neocons should pack up and move to Iraq.

Freedom has many faces....and choices people are allowed to make for themselves, rather than have their government tell them what they can and cannot do. This is but one of them.
----------------

"To revitalize the education system, the U.S. has spent $225 million to renovate 2,400 of Iraq's 18,000 schools, print nine million new textbooks and retrain one in 10 teachers."

But many here won't believe the above statement from your article....as there are no pictures that they can see. So IF there are no pictures....then it's really not taking place.
