I saw this bumper sticker today, and couldn't help but laugh. I find it discerning to see Christian Conservatives out stumping for war. So much for Christian values.

Yes, it is pretty hypocritical to support this war, and the self proclaimed, "War President".

I would imagine Jesus would have gathered the world leaders to a nice little shindig. Perhaps some fish, bread, wine. Get them all going with a nize little buzz, then hammer out some details on a diplomatic way to handle the situation that wouldn't cost us the death toll that Bush has created.

I would guess a few war mongers would think Jesus would ask God to strike fear in those of the Islamic world.

I of course, prefer to think of Jesus as a peaceful being.

Are you guys at all familiar with the Bible?

Jesus would sit back and teach his students about peace and love until a terrorist or political enemy killed him. Jesus taught to "turn the other cheek" when attacked. This is the way all true Christians should feel and act.

It's probably a good thing we keep electing people who don't take religion too seriously. There is a reason we keep church and state seperate.

Wanting to kill terrorists is not the Christian way. Fortunately our mercenary politicians don't mind that part of the job.

Isn't that what Bush is already doing on God's behalf?

I watched the movie "The Passion" last night and I was watching the movie, I came to the conclusion Jesus was a liberal.

I also came to the conclusion that if Jesus was around today, it would be the religious right that would have him crucified just like they did 2000 years ago.

To a certain point, Jesus WAS a liberal. But only to a point.

1. Love your neighbor, freedom for the world, international cooperation. Sure, he'd go for those things.
2. He's already made his opinions known on abortion, sex, homosexuality, and women's rights. I don't think many modern day liberals would like what he had to say about these things.
3. Not to say the Right has any claim on godliness. He'd be against the war, big business, and all for social programs, especially welfare.

He's actually quite hard to peg using the modern definitions. If I had to assign a political party to Jesus, I'd probably say libertarian.

replay- perhaps you could refresh my memory since I haven't read the bible in awhile. Are there any specific scriptures written where Jesus "made his opinions known on abortion, sex, homosexuality, and women's rights?"

FYI- I am really curious to this one. I take the bible with a grain of salt, but I would love to know either way. knowledge is half the battle.

Rusty, there are passages that deal with the issues you raised and in my opinion they are all subject to interpretation. How many different versions of the bible are written today. I bet if you read each version you will find a different interpretation.

thanks, but I would like to know which passages these are so that I can read them myself. I really don't have any interest in going through the entire New Testament only to find vague references. If someone would gladly point them out, I would be happy to read them myself. You would think I would remember the bible after all but 2 years of my childhood were spent in Catholic schools, but, my memory has slipped on the bible, and since I really find no use for it, I need a little guidance where to find some passages where Jesus specifically talks about these subjects. I will of course have to find a bible as well. I'm sure there may be websites that have the entire bible on them, but I am also guessing I need to give a little to take a little. I'm sure they'll want my name, address, etc so that their sect can track me down to save me. I suppose I could always read one at the library, or stop at a bookstore to read one.

Rusty,

This site gives the versus and two different interpretations.

http://www.ambs.edu/LJohns/Homosexuality.htm

This is just one site. There was another site I ran across that interpretations from other versions of the Bible. If I find them I will pass them on.

I don't recall Jesus having an opinion on abortion, sex, homosexuality and women's rights- that being said, just because I don't recall it doesn't mean he didn't make his thoughts known on those subjects. Since you seem to more about the teachings of Jesus than I, I really would appreciate it you would site the quotes and tell me where in the bible I would find them? I'm not being sarcastic, I always enjoy learning new things, especially concerning Jesus- so if you don't mind going to the trouble, I really would appreciate it!

Although I've read the whole thing fairly recently, I'm not really enough of a Bible thumper to be able to quote verses, but it is in there.

However, on second thought, there is a good chance that it may have actually been PAUL who said some of these things, not necessarily Jesus himself.

As far as the church is concerned they may as well have been said by Jesus, since Paul's writings are "official" church doctrine. But in all honesty, Jesus personally may not have said the things I was thinking of. They are all however discussed (and condemned) in the New Testament.

While we're having Bible study here...someone might just want to read what Jesus did when he got angry with people. Ever read anything about the plagues?

Just one:

Genesis 12:17

"And the Lord plagued Pharoah and his house with great plagues, because of Sarai, Abram's wife."

So don't go pissing him off....he might put a plague on your house too.

Linda, you seem to be confusing the god of the old testament with the Jesus of the new. I'm not aware of Jesus sending any locusts to anybody. I'm joking too...

This bible story may illustrate Jesus's compassion toward women and the sexual crime of adultry.

According to the Gospel of John, the Pharisees, in an attempt to discredit Jesus, brought a woman charged with adultery before him. Then they reminded Jesus that adultery was punishable by stoning under Mosaic law and challenged him to judge the woman so that they might then accuse him of disobeying the law. Jesus thought for a moment and then replied, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” The people crowded around him were so touched by their own consciences that they departed. When Jesus found himself alone with the woman, he asked her who were her accusers. She replied, “No man, lord.” Jesus then said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.”

Liberals would approve.

Who would jesus bomb?

I am thinking that Pat Robertson would squint his beady eyes and pray for and instruct jesus to bomb anything that is against the conservative right agenda. Just the same way he has him steer hurricanes away from the 700 club broadcasting studio and other such Robertson interests.

As far as women's rights and jesus, I don't think they were an issue when the bible was written.

I know a woman who claims she is a devout christian. In the recent news story about the beheading of the Americans in Iraq, she said, "we ought to go there and bomb every building in that city".

The bible has so many vague and interpurtaional references it is worthless as a guide.
